Morning everyone
It started to thaw here yesterday and there's no frost this morning. I had little one for a sleepover on Friday night, her bedroom was getting a makeover by DD. She's painted it and bought and built new furniture - little one was delighted when she saw it on Saturday.
I had told her I will give her a pound every week, to save for Butlins in the summer, if she does a job for me - she dashed around tidying her bed and opening her curtains, put her pyjamas in the washing basket then asked to hoover downstairs!
We went to the library on Saturday morning, the librarians were so happy to see her looking well....she gave them all a hug. They had kept books on the Titanic we'd had asked for ages ago so little one was pleased with those and then discovered they now have a games cupboard, so we sat on the floor and I taught her how to play tiddlywinks.
Next to our favourite cafe for lunch where she was greeted in a similar fashion by the owners, who we've known for years. Little one commented on the bus home 'everyone was so pleased to see me!'
I had a very lazy afternoon yesterday, mostly reading my Sunday Times and a good chat with eldest DD. She has booked our Riad in Marrakesh but still has to work out her flights.
Right, I'd best get on. Hope everyone has a good day.11 -
Good morning all
Not such a hard frost this morning but still very cold.
My plan is to clean and tidy two drawers or shelves in the kitchen each day. Not sure if I'll stick to the plan but I'll try.
Take careIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.8 -
Morning all. Today has started with a cloudy sky but it seems a little milder and we should have some sunny intervals with a gentle breeze. Bizarrely, temperatures are forecast to be warmer overnight than during the day! Right now it's 4 C rising to 8 C by this time tomorrow. I've missed getting out and about so roll on the thaw, although I do worry for those who could be flooded.
There's nothing happening here, same old, same old. Yesterday I made a pan of minestrone type soup that will do for 3, maybe 4, lunches and today I'm going to make a ginger cake and some scones. Tonight's tea is a small turkey fillet that I've sliced and is sitting in a tandoori marinade to have with oven chips and a side salad. I've also defrosted some of the cooked Xmas beef to make a stew. One way or another, I will use up those veggies!
I'm trying again for a SM delivery tomorrow, hopefully it will get delivered this time. Quite a few price increases including a jar of coffee (I'm going to try an own brand instead) and lambs liver. Since when did offal become so expensive? And I have a surveyor visit booked for Thursday afternoon for the water ingress in the bathroom to be looked at.
@remmie - Pleased to hear you got to the bottom of the mystery. It's a shame your aunt's son didn't inform anyone but that's families for you.
Right, duty calls. My thoughts are with the sad, lonely and poorly, please look after yourselves. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.7 -
Morning all
Not quite as cold here this morning which is a nice change, I have a day off today as Rob has an appointment so I won’t see him till tomorrow, OH has been to work but had to come home to take his dad to an appointment at the hospital and dd is on a late shift so we are all here at present.
Dogs to be walked later and I will have a quick tidy round ready for my guests tomorrow, then the day is mine.
Dinner tonight will be cottage pie with some veg left from yesterday I will make the pie up this morning ready to pop in the oven later.
Nanny I hope the appointment goes well xxx
Have good days all and take care xx7 -
Morning everyone I met my friend for a coffee and a catch up it was lovely to get out of the house but we couldn’t go for a walk first because the pavements are still so bad but it is starting to thaw slowly so hopefully another couple of days and we should be rid of it further up the dale they are coming from all over the country for the skiing it was even on the local news they have to walk the last mile to get there because the snow is so heavy but the holiday let’s and B&BS are full so everyone is happy well except me . Nanny hope everything goes alright for you today take care . Nothing much else happening here just housework and cooking I’ve got soup out for lunch and it will be the rest of the beef for tonight. Thinking of all the poorlies hugs to those that need them have a good day everyone whatever you are doing7

Well, the promised sunny intervals didn't arrive but it must be milder because I can see patches of green grass! Of course the grass hasn't been walked on so when the snow melts it soaks into the ground. The pavements are a different matter though with their compressed snow and ice! I've been watching the schools come out and even the kids are treading carefully, with more than one Bambi impression. I'll give it a couple more days before I venture out.
I didn't make any scones because I found a fruit loaf in the freezer to use first but have done the ginger cake and the stew. Lovely smells coming from the kitchen.
Good news - I've had an email from my energy supplier saying they've reduced my monthly DD by £16 pm. Not so good news, depending on how you look at it - I've been rather naughty and have ordered two pairs of Hotter shoes in their sale. I love their shoes but not at full price and only ever buy at sale price. A pair of black Mary Janes and a pair of tan loafers, saving £100.
Also on the money saving front, I'm looking at not renewing my SM delivery pass that expires next month. I used to get a delivery every week, then it dropped down to once a fortnight and now I'm a singleton I'm thinking once a month would be enough for the heavy and bulky stuff, providing I get the planning right of course. If I used the £1 saver slot that would be £12 pa as opposed to £40 pa plus I can get free exercise and fresh air by going in person for what I need in between and I'd get to choose my own fresh stuff too. I'll give it a try and if it doesn't work I can always get another pass.
Right, back to the grindstone aka clearing up the kitchen!Be kind to others and to yourself too.6
