1pMobile - now you don't get unlimited calls and texts unless you spend £10 on a 25gb boost
I've just noticed that they've tightened things up yet more and now you only get the unlimited minutes and texts when you spend £10 on the 25gb boost.
I've always assumed that unlimited texts and calls must cost them almost nothing as they have seemed to be only about £1 or £2 more per month than a data boost until now, but this suggests it must be worth it to them to try and get users to pay for the bigger boost now to get the unlimited minutes and texts.
I guess it makes a difference to them if they have hundreds of thousands of customers but it makes me wonder what they'll change next

Surprising since I doubt many users will use anywhere near that sort of amount, who sends loads of texts these days or even makes loads of phone calls? Conversations with friends/family would usually be on WhatsApp, messenger etc, so texts and phone calls just to people and companies you don't usually phone and would tend to be shorter calls or one off texts.
It might be some people just want "unlimited" because they don't want to think about how much they're using and want "certainty" of cost, in the same way as people go on "all inclusive" holidays. But then usually find some things aren't included in both cases!
But yes a bit worrying they're constantly changing stuff, it's as if they're searching for ways to stay profitable...0 -
Thanks for highlighting this, I'll need to look at moving elsewhere before the end of the month. Might give Asda mobile a try.
I'm on the 2GB plan and range from 30-60 calls per month, some may be brief but others aren't, so 100 minutes isn't much use.
Have just helped another elderly relative switch away from 1pmobile's PAYG over to O2's classic PAYG due to their changes to it, so that's two customers they'll have lost.0 -
OP here again
I've always been a bit of a fan of 1p and overall I'm no less of a fan now and I do appreciate that they need to not have customers who don't make them any money or are actually a cost to them; so it makes sense to me that they insist on making (I think now) effectively at least £5 per month from each customer. I can see it won't be appreciated by those who want to pay as little as possible and are on the 2gb boost, for whom 100 minutes might not be enough.
I remember years ago paying Orange about £17.50 a month for "Talk 15" which was revolutionary in that it included some minutes - so in real terms mobiles are dirt cheap today for what we get compared to then - and I get the impression some other countries pay quite a lot more than we do even today.0 -
Anyone who uses/needs EU roaming needs to check the alternatives before switching. 1p Mobile have potentially better roaming than, for example, GiffGaff:
1p include up to 14 GB/month in the EU
GiffGaff include up to 5 GB/month
1p countries include the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, GiffGaff (and most others) do not. We often go to Jersey and like 1p for the included roaming there.
Incidentally, £10/month for unlimited UK minutes is cheap in real terms.0
