Hi i have two questions re my debts.

first is Lowell keep chasing me for debts i had with Barclays Bank from 2010, there was 2.  They phone and write and email me. I haven’t made payments to one but I did to the other anfter they kept contacting me, I stopped payment in November 2023. Also I stupidly got in to debt again and one of my recent debts has been sold on to Lowell. What do i do about this please

second is I stupidly got into debt again.  I owe 16000 and last year I originally arranged lower payments with interest stoped with all companies apart from American Express who made it difficult.  I ended up getting into touch with Step Changes last year and set up a debt management payment plan through them.  Whilst I have been making payments through them.  Three of the accounts have been sold on,  one to Lowell, one to Allied and one to Link Financial.  American Express have put a default on my credit file and sold it on to Allied, the others have marked it as late payment. Am I better off setting up payment arrangements through the three debt collection companies and the other three are still with the credit card companies.  If I communicate with Lowell,  will i also have to pay the debts from 2010.  Thank you in advance

The debts from 2010 will be statute barred by now (Google limitation act 1980) if you haven`t paid or acknowledged them in writing in the 6 years since they defaulted.

You should send the statute barred letter to Lowell for those.

Stepchange should pass your payments to the debts new owners once you have informed them of the sale of these accounts, have you done that ?

Thank you.  I’ve just checked and one of them I haven’t made any payments.  The other last time I made a payment was November 2023,  they kept contacting me.  I then stopped payments.

it shows on step changes that the payments are going to the debt collectors for the three that were sold on.

With regard to the one on which you continued to make payments, was this an overdraft or a credit car? When was it set up.

RAS Have you seen the OP's other thread?

    IVA — MoneySavingExpert Forum

I think this is the second thread in a few days where Stepchange are pushing IVAs when they are not appropriate.

If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

If you are sure you haven't made any payment to the debt for 6 years ( or 5 in Scotland ) send this to Lowell.

Hi thank you. It was a credit card.  I can’t remember when it was taken out.  Lowell told me 2010 but I’m not sure if that’s when it was taken out or when it was sold to them

Hi I forgot to add that a person from a debt collector agency turned up at my house,  think it was December.  I’ve been unwell with my mental health and at that time i wasn’t in the right place to talk to them.  I told them that I’m not well with my mental health.  I think they gave me a letter but I think I ended up binning it and not reading it.  I really couldn’t deal with it.
