House Survey Query about Mould

Hi All,

I'm in the process of buying a house and a survey is due to be completed next week. I wanted to check if there is any way to identify mould issues. I lived in a house in the past that was riddled with mould and I have been scarred since this issue. It was a small house and every room was impacted, I had to spend time almost every day removing mould. I obviously don't want to buy a house that has similar problems, are there any precautions that I can take?

Thanks in advance.

I got caught 'buyer beware' with this bungalow.  I didn't smell damp, but an unpleasant local woman, who was also after it, said 'congratulations - and I hope you find the source of the damp.

Unfortunately my L3 surveyor didn't as he could not lift carpets/move heavy furniture, and every floor here was rotten with mould.  I had to have the whole lot replaced at great cost and inconvenience - as the bathroom was affected I had to get a chemical toilet, that alone cost £250 for the two weeks.  My sheltie died six weeks later - of kidney failure the vet said, he would have been 14 the day after - but he also had a fungus in his nose.  I'll never forget or forgive the seller.

If I sell and move, I would always have a damp/timber survey on a new property.  Good luck.
