Non mortgage related, well sort off. Just completed the defrosting of the second freezer. With all that's been going on confess it had been a couple of years (maybe 3) since this was done so much so that the entire fast freeze compartment was just a block of ice. Started 12pm yesterday and finished at 9am this morning with a lot more towels, pans and mopping then necessary. Reminder that I need to take action when I can, the longer I leave things that need done the more time and effort it takes to do them. Next up build the BBQ that's been sat on the kitchen table since my birthday in April!

Good effort on the freezer, one of those jobs that's always very satisfying once it's done 😀

Now get cracking with that barbecue, you don't want to miss any more good weather!

Well done on the freezer defrost,  l hate that job but didnt feel l could justify the cost of a  replacement for the utility mostly housing junk food and ice creams.

After +20 of doing it, l finally brought a "frost free" freezer earlier this year.  Wished I'd done it years ago.

So £55,009.85 showing as remaining balance as of this morning. Really feeling the urge to send a tenner onto it to get to the £54K mark but I'll hold until some of the £16 prolific pending funds come through. Would be a psychological boost but just back from taking the kids out for a treat lunch, still 5 weeks of the school holidays to go up here. Eldest has got dance camp at the end of the month for around £70 and youngest has a birthday party so that needs a lilo and stich themed gift as well apparently.

Still the sun is shining, the BBQ is built and the beer is chilling in the fridge, it's the little things after all. Cheers all, enjoy the weather while we can.

So another (potential) indicator of how well this year is going for the mortgage so far, emails from TSB yesterday alerting us both to the fact we could be on a better rate, it's just the mortgage my name is against with this bank and aside from annual statements and rate changes that's the first communication I've received from them about anything else to do with it. Sure they have our best interests at heart but for me we must be approaching a threshold where they are not going to make as much from us as they had budgeted for and they want to get us back on the 20 to 30 year path again. Will see if a letter arrives this week as well.......

EDIT and my credit score just jumped 8 points as well. Nothing done the last 12 months apart from carry on with bill payment streaks etc. Unintended bonus of overpayments perhaps?

Milestone reached, with another £7.18 from Prolific for a current July total of £918.70 that puts us at £54,999.43. Yeah they'll add on interest at the end of July but the 1st of the month direct debit ensures we are under £55k going into August. 6.5 months into this and I am now wondering if it's possible for us to shave a decade off the mortgage end date in 12 months?

Really want to ramp up FIRE payments, cracked open a S&S ISA in May and dropping a small £50 a month into it as I feel I need to do something now on that front before I turn 50 and this way if we do decide to fix at the end of 2025 or 2026 we've got a home for the OP savings (minus the 10% we'll be allowed to make of course). 90% certain we will be seeing out the SVR for 2025 as we both agree we want to see the balance remaining dropping at this speed for now, roll on the next interest rate decision on the 7 August.
