Hi all
So i have worked all my life and unffortunately had to retire due to ill health in 2020. My NHS pensions restricts me from earning any more than the LEL(£6,398 currently) so National insurance will not be deducted from my earnings ever. I know there are 3 ways to get national insurance credits. I cannot afford to buy them. I dont qualify for benefits, however can i clain any benefit without being in receipt of money to get my contributions paid to ensure i get a full state pension? Many thanks

How old are you now?Exactly what does your State Pension forecast say? You might already have paid enough NI to get the full amount.N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. Ripple Kirk Hill member.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is if you care for a child aged under 12 child while their parent works, you can claim Childcare credits (basically the credits from the Child Benefit that the parent does not make use of because they are gaining credits via working anyhow)
Apply for Specified Adult Childcare credits - GOV.UK1 -
See https://www.gov.uk/national-insurance-credits/eligibility which sets out all the options.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!1

Carer's credit, if you meet the conditions.

Childcare credits, if you meet the conditions

Part time self-employment and then buy the cheaper class 2 contributions
https://www.gov.uk/self-employed-national-insurance-rates
Buying a year of full price NI credits, you get the cost back in extra pension about 3 years. Less than a year for class 2. Depending on your health, maybe worth raiding any other savings/resources to do it, as long as you have a reasonable chance of living that long.
How old are you and how many years short of a full pension ?1 -

Will have been contracted out with the NHS and so, having retired in 2020, will almost certainly need some more (post 2016) years.

Hang on...your NHS pension will NOT stop you from earning over the LEL if you're well enough to do any sort of work - why do you think it would??......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple1 -
