Two remotes on wii

I have two remotes for the wii. One works fine and other works okay when I press the rest thing inside but each time I turn wii on the other remote doesnt work all time

any ideas

I did what it suggested below but its a pain to have to keep doing it every time its played, especially as the two remotes are on a charger so each time I havr to take the back off and batteries out as they are connected (take 2 AAA NIMH) to the back and insert 2 AA's
