Unable to transfer Married Allowance on self assessment

Hi
We have been trying to transfer the Married Allowance from my wife to my account but it isn't working. We completed the details on her online form and an error message came up. No reason was given and we assumed my name was different to the way they have it, so we tried different permutations. The error message then said that we had failed 3 times so we were unable to claim!
I'm guessing that this is a common problem but this is the first time we have tried to do this. The online help was useless and no staff were available to help. Can anyone suggest how we can deal with this?
TIA

Do you mean Marriage Allowance or Married Couple's Allowance?0 -
The marriage Allowance, transferring 10% from one spouse to another.0

You (the spouse) shouldn't expect anything to happen until at least a few days after she has submitted her return with the application on it
Are the error messaged she is getting when she is completing her tax return?
If so what are the messages? Is it possible one of you is too old for Marriage Allowance to be the sensible option?
Why does she need to complete a tax return in the first place?0 -
My wife completes a tax return to declare income but she isn't using all of her personal allowance. When we complete the Marriage Allowance section it asks for my details but when we enter the details there is an error, the info doesn't match what they have. We tried to amend the details but it then said 'Error: As you have already made three attempts to match your Recipient details, you cannot select to transfer your Marriage allowance in this return.'
She cannot submit her return now unless she enters No to the Marriage Allowance question.0 -

Yes, I entered the details correctly but HMRC don't say what the 'error' is for?0
