Rectification Work and courtesy car

Options
2 issues: My car was involved in an accident 13 nov 24 My insurers were keen to scrap the car as it's an 09 plate. I wasn't happy about this. I spent the whole day wrangling with them to get them to take it to my local garage. I called my mechanic and as it was nearby the manager came out to look at it and said it's not a write off they could repair it. Finally insurers transporter agree to take the car to my garage (instead of a scrap yard) and then begins the wrangling with the Insurers to pay a what they call a 'Non-Network Garage' meaning not one of their approved mechanic garages and how much they should pay. Finally after the insurers accept my local garage is a bonifide VAT regd mechanics they accept the 'pro-forma' invoice for the repairs (some £4,600.00). Courtesy car During this month when i desperately need a car to get to workplaces, not properly serviced by transport, I asked for the courtesy car that on my email front page to renew my policy it said 1) RAC Covered TICK 2)uninsured Driver TICK and 3) Coutesy car TICK. They say if it doesn't go to their network approved they don't give a car as the garage gives the car. I said it doesn't say that on renewal page on my phone and show them. Theres no asterisk etc saying only network garages or other discalaimers. They don't agree i dont get a car and i have to hire one at my own expense.  THEN... I get the car back and the headlight isn't working. The garage says yeah theres a module that controls the light and it wasn't a part of the repairs so you'll have to go back to the Insurance. The insurers say rectification work between customers and non. network garages are not their problem its between me and them and the mechanics are saying nah its the insurance theygotta pay as we couldn't know about the module until all the wing light fitting and bumper are fixed. Also theres a noise on the steering. so backand forth backand forth each sending me back around. I saw BMW service centre and they said we'll fix it but they will charge £200 for diagnostics and any repairs. The exess I had to pay £300... what is the legals here please?

Ignore what is ticked on your renewal what does your policy booklet say about non-network garage and a courtesy car?

Courtesy car: You need to read what your policy says.
Remaining faults: You told your insurance that you wanted to take the car to your preferred garage.  The insurers have now paid the garage.  If the garage hasn't done the job properly, then the insurers won't care.  They have paid for the repairs.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Many insurers will not sanction a courtesy car outside their approved repairer network, the car is often provided by the repairer at "mate's rates", part of the we give you work, you give us something system. As you are now finding writing off a car has nothing to do with whether it can be repaired or not, it is all about the total cost and the never ending list of little bits that crop up.  Your insurer has limited their liability to a set amount as quoted by your chosen repairing garage rather than write it off, an approved repairer often has to take it on the chin if the repair goes beyond their quote.

Be careful, they might still decide to write off the car to cut their losses.  You see a few of these going through Copart.

How much did the insurers offer you to scrap the vehicle?
