3D verification and Halifax Clarity

When I pay online with my Halifax Clarity credit card and if 3D verification is necessary, I am always taken to a page to receive a phone call where I have to enter a given code. Other family and friends however are asked to verify the transaction via their App.

I travel a lot and although always have internet, I often do not have mobile reception making the card useless. I have repeatedly asked Halifax how to change this verification method from phone call to App but they say they cannot and that it is determined by the merchant in question.

This reasoning is rubbish as firstly, if I use my husband's card to buy the same product / service from the same merchant the verification is ALWAYS via App. Secondly, simply by the law of statistics I would now and again be given the option to verify by App but NEVER am.

Anyone any ideas ? is there a setting somewhere? Should I remove my phone numbers from mobile banking so the are forced to verify by App?

VPN makes no difference for me.

Are they the main card holder or an additional card holder?

When you say 'travel a lot', or you abroad. Another post of yours suggests you live abroad?

    Could that be the issue?

To answer the questions. I am the main cardholder. I live in Germany but travel all over the world.

My husband has an identical account and whenever 3D fails for me, we use his card to buy the same service / item from the same merchant and he always verifies via App. He is never asked to verify by phone call and if what Halifax says is true that the method is merchant dependent, he would statistically sometimes get the phone option but has NEVER had it just as I NEVER get the app option.

When you say 'his card' do you mean a separate Halifax card from yours (not an additional cardholder on yours). And for the avoidance of doubt he is in Germany also?

Avoiding the question of why Halifax have continued letting you have the accounts being non-resident then there seems no logical explanation if your answer is yes to the questions above.

Yes as stated, husband has his own identical account and lives in Germany.

Nothing unusual in being non-resident, lots of financial institutions have no problem with that.
