Child benefit and self assessment

I’ve been completing self assessment for many years due to higher child benefit charge.
we stopped receiving child benefit in September 2024 so only 6 months of payments as my son has left school.
Once I complete my self assessment for this last 6 months of child benefit charge do I have to continue self assessment?
I’m on PAYE with my employer and only use self assessment due to the higher child benefit charge
I am going to phone the tax office but wanted to see what other people’s thoughts are ?

If you don't have a reason to complete a return then HMRC should agree to stop issuing returns.

Given you will still need to file the return due to be issued in April 2025 it is probably simpler to wait until that has been issued and then contact them.

Firstly you need to continue to file self assessment until they tell you that you can stop in writing.  This can obviously be in response to you asking them if you can stop.  Definitely do not just stop.
