Why wont my PC recognise daughters Ipod Nano. Message says USB device not recognised. It doesn't even appear in My Computer in the removable devices. I've got windows XP home, could that be the problem? The same thing happened to my sons Ipod, he ended up using it at work, but my daughter isn't allowed to use her work PC for this, so does that mean she is stuck with an unusable Ipod?

Try turning pc off, connect Ipod then restart pc, it should then find the drivers and show in my computer.

I might be wrong but I think you might have to download ITUNES
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • ariba 10 - yup, you need the latest version of itunes downloaded to your computer for the ipod to work. the dl is freely available from apple.com (just search via the box at the top L.H. corner for 'itunes' and you'll get the dl page)

  • you mean you dl'd itunes and you're still having this problem? then try resetting your ipod then reconnecting it to your computer. my current ipods show up on the desktop, but I've also experienced ipods only showing up in itunes, not on the desktop, so be sure to check if its showing in itunes (altho, plugging ipod in usually prompts iunes to start up if it isn't already open).

Is the USB port your plugged into coming from the back of the PC or via a hub? You can find that unless it's coming directly from the motherboard, there isn't enough juice to power the connection to the ipod.
