in Phones & TV
OK - I know this is happening and while I don't understand it from a technical point of view I'm sure I'll figure it out when I need to.
What I don't understand is the company that's trying to get me set up.
So I've had a couple of phone calls. Some have been right out rude. If I say I can't talk as I'm about to leave for work the call is cut off without a response. If I say I would like them to send me the information in the post or by email they hang up. Yesterday I had some more time available and the woman started asking me questions about my bills and that she would lower them if I agreed to switch. Well I'd like lower bills but I want to know what I'm agreeing to. She said that this has all been sent to me by my current phone provider but I haven't received anything and told her so. She told me a couple of times that she can't send me anything but that she can lower my bills (repeat repeat repeat). I asked how she could lower my bills if she is not with the company I pay my money to.
OK - so if this is going to lower my phone bill why does that depend on how much I'm currently paying? Wouldn't it be a set £20 a month decrease or something? And how do I know that I will still have all the same options of free calls national and international as well as broadband and mobile?
Does anyone simply agree to give information to a stranger phoning them without actually knowing what the deal is?

This sounds very much like a scammer calling you. Refuse to engage in conversation and block the number if possible.4

Never Never Never answer these Cold Callers.
Hang up.
We switched from analogue TV to digital ages ago.
Analogue land lines will be disappearing (and use "digital" )but that will be dealt with by your Contracted Supplier in the fullness of time. It may still use the existing copper cable in your case for a long time yet. They will not be trying to sell you a new contract or want you to switch.
Who supplies your Landline and who your Broadband? Check with them,2 -
Supposedly the switching is in progress in this area (independent confirmation) and it appears this is the same woman who has phoned each time so I didn't think she could be a scammer. Nothing on my provider's website about anything and no way to contact them other than to ring them which I don't really want to do.

Made me think of this thread from a while ago - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6314121/v4-consumer-landline-package-cancellation-nightmare
Re "she would lower them if I agreed to switch." that certainly sounds like they are not calling on behalf of your current supplier, but are trying to (trick you into) switch your service to a new supplier.
If they won't give details of the service/price they are offering then that rings major alarm bells.3 -
Have yougoogled the phone number the woman is calling from?1

UK Phone lines are gradually being moved from analogue to digital. Your current phone supplier will contact you when this is about to happen, with clear instructions. There should be no change in pricing at the time of the move. Your caller sounds like a salesperson who is pigggy-backing on the switch, to try to bounce you into another phone deal (or maybe just a scammer with no phone deal). Block the number and move on.

Have you checked out Home - The EE Community at all?
Talk Talk Community is pretty helpful and they have Staff Members who can accurately advise (if you ensure yout profile is accurate). Whether EE is the same or not I have no idea.
