Can a widow use the NCD of a deceased spouse?

Recently my dad died and left a car to my mum, unfortunately she can't drive but has now received her provisional license and would like to use the car.
The problem is the cost as my mum has no NCD. Does anyone know of an insurance company which will allow a car to be insured by my mum as a provisional driver and allow my dad's 7 years of No Claims Discount to be transferred to her?
My dad was with Kwik Fit insurance but they won't allow any of my dad's discount to be transferred.

My deepest sympathy to both you and your Mum. I'm not sure of anyone who does do it, but Norwich union transferred my husbands NCD to me, when he didn't need it as he got a company car. I know the situation is a bit different, but I didn't even know they could do it and they offered it.
Best of luck

i think the only time they tend to transfer it, is if the person was already noted on previous policies as a named driver, - espec in husband/wife cases, where the car is usually shared0

Agree with flea72 that it's unlikley that they will transfer the NCD to your mother as she wouldn't have been noted on the earlier policy. The NCD rests with the driver rather than the vehicle. But it might be worth asking the question of a couple of alternative insurers. It might at least prompt them to offer a decent starter discount, particularly in these circumstances.0

I was never registered on husbands car insurance, and they transferred it to me....?!0

I'm surprised it can be done.
I thought your best bet was to try for an introductory NCD - some firms pitch them quite high.
Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.0
