TfL fine and time to pay

I received a fine from TfL unfairly in my opinion, they then lost my appeal and so my fine progressed so is now £270 I asked for time to pay and have now received an instalment plan that started 2 months ago and requests that I pay via cheque or postal order! Have I missed something or have we time travelled to the 1970's I would like to pay via direct debit. You can't even send in post dated cheques you have to send them in via post each month

My question is, is this legal or can I demand to be able to pay via electronic banking as I currently don't have a cheque book and the last time, I will deal with the lateness of the the letter separately.

Thanks in advance for any advise

Getting a crossed postal order from the PO is easy though. But I am a 1960's born lady who worked in banking for years, so these methods of payment seem OK to me, if old fashioned!
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I didn't even know you could still get postal orders - I haven't used one since the 1980's. And I haven't had a cheque book in more than a decade.

Seems ridiculous you can't pay online, or even at a bank.

There's some phone numbers online dealing with penalty fares - surely they most have some options (assuming your fine originated from something like that?)

Checked out that link and it does appear to give options to pay on-line and by phone, neither of which mentioned cheques or postal orders. I didn't follow the pay by post option but, as it provided an address, assumed it would require a cheque or P.O.
