Morning all, thanks Gers.Camelot hope the scan goes well. Some of our schools were shut yesterday, DGD high school were letting them start an hour later. The snow that has been left has now frozen so I had my yak trax on taking pooch out earlier, it was foggy too but that's cleared. Didn't post yesterday, the day ran away with me.I'm glad I cleared the snow from the front and back paths though whilst it was soft, the York stone is lethal when icy. Picked DGS up but the long path was flooded and I didn't have wellies on, neither did most of the children
. It runs off the playing field alongside, but I was expecting it to be still snow covered.
DH has his hopefully last hip check with his consultant today, the hospital is up a steep road so could be tricky.I'm going to put a beef stew on in the slow cooker for tea, trying to use up the meat in the freezer before I get a new pack from the butcher. DS1 went to DH fave bakers down the main road wanting a loaf and pasties yesterday morning, they apparently sold out of bread by 8.30, I still have a bit in the freezer but might have to get the bread machine out of retirement! Apparently the bakers is better for slicing and toasting! I don't eat bread these days, and I'd make one and half would get wasted when DH would go and buy one so I gave upHugs to those still unwell, hospital visits etc. Try and keep warm and safe.

Agree Rob is so lucky to have you Ruby ,but his Mum needs to do better .
DGS successfully had the teeth removed yesterday it was a lot easier than the two before Chr ,he stayed last night and managed eating quite easily .
i will take him back today ,he’s back on Thursday for the sorting and repositioning of the braces , we didn’t know it would be so soon ,I’d like him to stay but he didn’t bring any more clothes and wants to go back anyway .
Hopefully the trains will be ok on Thursday otherwise Grandmas taxi service will have to r un again !11 -
Morning all. Still cold and frosty here but no worse than that.
We christened our air fryer last night by cooking some chilli prawns; delicious! Have remembered I've got some of those chilled pain au chocolat in the fridge so might try those later. So far, so good.
Managed to get new towels and a larger pyrex bowl yesterday plus some books from the bigger Library. Have put a dark load of washing in and will be packing up some things for the charity shop later. Some unwanted kitchen bits are sitting on the dining table so will have to clear those. Chicken and veg soup to make for tonight and DH can have one of those part baked rolls done in the air fryer
Hope everyone else is ok. Look after yourselves.12 -
Morning! Cold and frosty, but sunny..I am definitely going out today [ didn't make it yesterday] after chopping a bag of kindling, taking the tree down, organising the balls, lights and stuff [ one box emptied , boxes labelled with what's actually in them] , floors hoovered much to the cats disgust, christmas cards binned or kept [ we have an artist friend and we get cards every year with his paintings on so I'm saving them to put in frames] , cats tower moved back again etc. I've laid the fire this morning ready so now the day is my own. I would like to go to the allotment. We'll see...Freezer dipping today, I had some braised beef out of there last night, OH will finish that off today and there's amsh ready...but then, there are two sausages in the fridge so...For those saying about seeing the new moon and venus the other day, there's a website called timeanddate.com which has everything time and sky related you could want, there are notifications about when meteorites are going to shower, the moon etc etc. Worth a look [ someone on the gardening thread put it up] TA, yes, walk slowly and carefully, no dashing! Nanny, hope your dad behaved himself! Ruby, can SS or someone not write to her and list the things he needs for the winter under the guise of welfare? Or just tell her? You are good to him, poor love. Camelot, hope it goes well and they find something [ otherwise it's more limbo, not that I want them to!] Allie, what nice neighbours! remmie, hoe everyone gets home safe and sound and quickly today! Gers, same as, I have three jumpers I just wear on rotation and I do keep looking for something else but nothing is as easy to chuck on. Coxy, I am actually jealous, I love a tip run...I'm quite liking Dunelm to at the minute, just for the cookware and softie throws...Rosie, how nice you have a bakers though and a good one. SS, also poor thing, fingers crossed for running trains.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi13

Morning everyone
Cold and frosty here, the wind has dropped so that's good.
I'm back at work this morning and little one has gone back to school happily, hopefully she'll think her new teacher is a suitable replacement for her old one. She'd had an awful time getting her port flushed yesterday morning, she'd been screaming and hitting and kicking the poor nurse - not her usual behaviour at all. It had taken an hour to get it done, the nurse went round to school afterwards with them, and went over everything to do with little one with all the staff, DD wanted them all reminded of how quickly she can deteriorate. So little one did meet her new teacher, but she'd been very subdued and had hardly spoken. She came up to mine at lunchtime and we had a lovely afternoon, she told me she knew she shouldn't have made such a fuss but 'it really really hurts gran.' I felt so sorry for her, but this is something that she has to have done every 4 weeks, so unfortunately she has to get used to it.
Camelot - thanks for the info on Marrakech, we're planning on staying in a Riad, but there's so many to choose from and they all look lovely. DD sent me all her research yesterday, she's even found flights for me. ..I can fly direct from Newcastle. She just needs to check with her boss today that she can take that week off.
Redruby - Rob is lucky he has you.
I'd better get moving and make my packed lunch. I hope everyone has a good day, be careful if you have snow x12 -
Morning all, we've had another sprinkling of snow and the pavements are covered, the road is clear but the sky still looks full of it.
We spent over an hour in the opticians only to find that they cannot do anything to help Dad's sight as he has cataracts in both eyes which have worsened, so he's going to use his old glasses, buying new ones are not worth it. They will however send someone out to him with aids to help as much as possible. I did have words with him because he was telling strangers my business, but he said it's ok because I'll probably never see them again, no it's not 🤬
Today my leg is killing me, probably from walking around the sm looking for Dad, I've also been coughing most of the night so I hope I haven't caught some lurgy too. I shall not be taking him shopping anytime soon as he had a list but ignored it and was like a magpie for items that he didn't want. I lost count of how many things he picked up, scrutinised and put back grumbling about the price ! He did buy some stuff just because they were reduced though, but they weren't on the list. It will only be shopping online in future. Sorry for the rant, again.
I have a load in the wm and I have stripped the bed, the bedding will be done next. Later I shall re make the bed and fill my dosette box.
dp1 hugs for little one.
Camelot I hope all goes well today.
Rosy your DGS is a star and very brave.
Ruby what is Rob's mum like, she needs a good shake if you ask me.
Take care all, sorry I can't remember who else had news, so forgive me for not mentioning you.

Morning all. I've had a lie in, the annoying cough keeps waking me up during the night and I'm tired. Other than that, I feel fine. Anyway, there was no rush to get up - it's cold, I'm not going anywhere and the SM delivery has been cancelled. I'd half expected that would be the case but it doesn't matter. I'll definitely run out of fresh milk today so will call on the reserve long life stuff and there's plenty of food in the fridge and freezer.
The snow is still with us and now it's frozen over too. It sounds very crunchy underfoot, another reason for not going anywhere when I don't have to. Schools were closed yesterday but open today although I think they're probably having a later start time than normal. The main road into the estate is passable, with care, but side roads are lethal. I've seen more than one motorist struggling with their rear wheels spinning aimlessly and not gaining traction.
I'm going to give the kitchen cupboard doors a wipe over today, they're a light maple colour and soon look grubby, especially around the handles. That will keep me warm and I'll have the bread maker on too. @RosyRed - I agree with your DH. I prefer shop bought bread for toasting and always have a loaf in the freezer just for that.
For tea tonight I'm having pasta with some tomato & red pepper sauce I made the other day plus sliced leftover sausages and a p/b crusty roll. I think lunch will be more of the spiced parsnip & potato soup, ideal for this cold weather.
@Gers - love the pub sign! Glad to hear Openreach has got you up and running again.
@camelot1001 Hope the ultrasound goes well and you can soon enjoy something to eat/drink.
@TA - I know what you mean about being housebound but better safe than sorry. Us oldies and broken legs are not a good combination.
@AlwaysAllie - Kind neighbours indeed.
@RedRuby1231 - Rob's mum would exasperate me too.
@Coxy11 - One of my festive cheeses was a camembert, very stinky and I could smell it every time I opened the fridge door but it was oh so nice!
@RosyRed - Fingers crossed DH's last hip check goes well today.
@Suffolksue - One successful dental appointment down for your DGS, one to go.
@-taff - Thanks for the info about the website. I saw the moon and Venus again last night, much further apart than when I saw them over the weekend.
@dp1 - I hope LO has a good day at school. The port flushing sounds an ordeal, she certainly has a lot to contend with.
@nannywindow - Rant away all you like. I'm so sorry to hear your Dad's cataracts have got worse, it's awful not being able to see properly so I hope he finds the aids useful when he gets them. That may well be another rant in the making!
Right, must get on otherwise nothing will get done. Stay as safe and warm as you can, hugs where needed or wanted. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.11 -
Morning everyone I’ve just come in from a cleaning job hubby took me and picked me up well to the end of the road couldn’t get the car into the estate she lives on it is freezing cold but bright it has to get colder as the week goes on so no chance of this thawing and getting rid of any of the snow it’s dangerous to walk in everything is so icy and frozen . Camelot I hope everything goes well for you today Ruby that shocking of Robs mum someone really needs to speak to her even if she went to a charity shop there’s always plenty of winter clothes. Gers I’m another one that is constantly in the same claim always cold and I have a few fleecy tops I put on and a couple of body warmers in fact one of my sisters came and said for gods sake put that top in the bin it must be older than me you looked depressed mind you when I had a good look at it I think she was right . I made a couple of shepherds pies yesterday one for tonight and one for the freezer I’ve had a quick dust round and a hoover downstairs don’t know that I will be doing much more today I just want to hibernate. Thinking of all the poorlies hugs to those that need them have a good day everyone whatever you are doing10

Yeah, I know what you mean about having a good look and then realising. OH has got lots of very old t shirts, he doesn't see the misspahepn bits or the ripped bits or the faded bits...And I'm the same with things too, I don't look closely, just ut it on, and very occasionally, when I'm int hesunlight, I can see the bobbly bits, the grease blobs that don't come off, the faded bits etc and shame myself into getting rid of something.
