PCN - keying error (+ other potential issues)

Hello

I'm hoping for some valuable advice from those more knowledgeable than myself. I received a PCN today from ECP. The crime....no ticket was purchased. The problem is that a ticket was indeed purchased but the stressed and frazzled driver mistakenly entered the final 2 letters of the reg incorrectly. Driver has gone ahead with straightforward keying error appeal using the template on the newbies sticky with receipt of relevant purchased ticket attached.

Now here comes the potential further issues...4 hour ticket was purchased but total stay was 4 hours 13 mins. This was due to driver forgetting wallet (again, stressed and frazzled) and therefore downloaded the ringgo app resulting in 12 min delay in purchasing said ticket. Driver also over stayed by 1 min for which they have no excuse. I understand this parking episode was nothing short of a disaster however the drivers intentions were good and I do not believe it warrants a £100 parking charge.

Advice on what to do next kindly requested. Thank you for reading.

At the end of the day it's an invoice like any other. They might try and extract £20 from the driver, or they might tell them to get stuffed and pay up.

If they don't pay and just ignore them eventually it'll result in a court claim which will never go to a hearing and be cancelled at the eleventh hour. They clog the court system up by using it as an debt collection service.

A person understanding the "scam" would ignore, shrug at doing a bit of paperwork for a court claim and then await the inevitable discontinuation.

But some people in life just get walked all over.

Try an appeal and POPLA but only after first exhausting Plan A This month.

If an appeal has already been made by the driver with proof that explained the keying error,  they should offer them the £20 keying error option in response

The unpaid tariff time was 13 minutes,  no overstay occurred due to it being a pay to park car park,  but the BPA CoP allows a minimum of 10 minutes to leave at end of the parking period,  note the word minimum,  not maximum

Hopefully they will respond in an appropriate manner

Plan A should be implemented ASAP,  regardless,  because the appeal was plan B, plan A should have been tried first

Sorry I should have added, plan A has been implemented by no luck as of yet. I will continue to push the retailer.

Group of new MPs are pushing Govt for statutory regulation for the private parking industry. Motorists must join them. Please sign this petition demanding the re-launch of the Govt backed Parking Code. 🙏

Small update - I have been back to the store today (co-op) and requested cancellation but was told as the store is closing down next week, they are unable to help (in other words fobbed off). I have sent an email to head office and will update once I hear back.

The Coop aren't the brightest shop on the High Street (if there are any left) are they, but well done!

Further update. Reply received from head office.

"Euro Car Parks policy does state that if the vehicles registration is entered incorrectly then a fine will be issued.

On this occasion as a gesture of good faith we have cancelled the fine."

Not happy with the use of the word fine but good result nonetheless.

Thank you to those who offered advice.
Nice result. PLAN A strikes again!
