Tapi Carpets damage when fitting

New carpet fitted by Tapi's sub-contractors. That evening we noticed our bed was very wobbly - on inspection, we found the bedframe had been broken and put back together crudely with some screws (it's an antique bed, so was previously joined with dowels). I suspect the fitters dragged the bed across the floor in order to fit the carpet, instead of lifting it; that would have broken the joins in the frame. I understand accidents happen, but this looks like a cover-up and botched repair. We have had to pay £100s to get the bed repaired properly. I've been through their formal complaints process but Tapi deny all responsibility, and claim it wasn't their fitters who did the damage and the crude repair.

Sounds like it's going to be a case of your word against theirs then, which will only be resolved by small claims?0

Did you have the contract for fitting with Tapi or is it direct with the fitters.
If with Tapi you could send a letter before action to their head office as a bluff and see if the cave, if not you'd be looking at small claims.
You mention hundreds to repair the bed, what is the bed worth? If you have a £1000 bed that's 5 years old then a couple of hundred to repair might be reasonable, if you have a £200 bed that's 20 years then probably not. No doubt somewhere in the middle but I think you need to factor this if asking them for an amount. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
Was there anything in the contract to fit the carpet requiring that the room be cleared, or did Tapi state that their workers would move furniture?

I think you should have cleared the room prior to the fitters arriving. They aren't removal men. Think this one is on you.0
