Finance Dispute

Hi,
I took out finance for a carpet last year with Tapi Carpets. There were many issues from the get go but to cut a long story short, when placing the order the carpet was in the warehouse within a few days, it was only when i chase it 12 weeks later that they claimed it has been in and they emailed me confirmation which was never received, and they were unable to locate said email either so they paid for fitting (£200)
During this time, I have not started payment for the carpet on this basis that the customer service was extremely poor and as mentioned to the company i would not be paying until the carpet was actually fitted due to the mess around and uncertainty.
The carpet was eventually fitted in June 2024 and from then have tried to set up the payment plan but was always held up with i need to pay arrears until I put a formal complaint in and threatened the Ombudsman.
I received an email in August confirming as a gesture of goodwill for the mess around they would cancel the said agreement and start a new one and amend my credit file due to them placing a default. This would've also cancelled out all arrears from date of credit application.
I confirmed this was ok and was happy to go forward. I also requested compensation on the matter of having to continuously chase this matter, had my credit file tarnished and requested full update on when the default would be removed or i would be taking it to the Ombudsman if they werent able to confirm. An email was sent by the company withdrawing all of the above, declining the compensation request i asked for and that they would send a letter of deadlock. An email was further sent by myself to request what is going on and why they have withdrawn their offer, surely they could of declined the compensation i requested and carried on with the offer?
To date, the amount is with 'Overdales' who are collecting the amount, I have not paid anything and my email was never replied to.
Is there any advice where i could go with this? I personally would like to cut ties with this company and fight to have this written off and my credit file repaired. It has been disastrous from day one, due to us having a conversion and small children, i was desperate to get the property back in livable condition, or i wouldve gone with another company to save this hassle!

Overdales are the legal arm of Lowell`s, a large debt purchasing company.
If I`m reading this correctly, you had issues with a carpet company, and even through it was eventually fitted, you have withheld payment because you are unhappy with the level of service provided, is that about right?
Unfortunately despite the issues you faced, you did not keep up with agreed payments, two wrongs don`t make a right I`m sorry to say, as the carpet was on finance, that is a separate issue to any problems you faced with the company that provided and fitted the carpet.
A better approach would have been to keep up with the payments, and also made a complaint about the service you received separately, as you broke the agreement when you didn`t pay.
I would assume your next step is the FOS, but they will likely say the same as me.
