Morning all. My optimism that the snow might have almost gone today has been dashed as we had yet more of the white stuff last night, with large flakes coming down heavily for a good while. Not quite back to square one, but not that much of an improvement either.
I took down the fairy lights yesterday afternoon and hopefully they won't be as tangled as they were this year when I next get them out. The room looks so bare now but at least it's quicker and easier to dust. I've done a small grocery order of essentials for delivery tomorrow afternoon; whether it comes or not is another matter although it's not a disaster if it doesn't.
Tea tonight is sausages, braised red cabbage and oven chips. I need to do some baking at some point so will look in the cupboard to see what I can use up before deciding what to do. I've also got a couple of phone calls to make (council and TV licensing) but might postpone them until mid-week when the phone lines are a bit quieter.
@Suffolksue - Poor DGS, I hope the extractions aren't too traumatic.
@TA - Yes, my heating is working overtime too but needs must I'm afraid.
Stay safe and warm, hugs for those who need or want any. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.13 -
Good morning everyone
It's been awful weather here, snow, constant rain/sleet all yesterday and overnight. Up at 6 am bailing out my greenhouse as my overwintering plants were nearly getting their feet wet despite being raised on bricks off the floor. I am just gearing up to emptying my water butts which having been nearly emptied on New Years Eve are now close to the top again. The joys of gardening.
I don't think I need to venture to the shops today, stocked up on veg and fruit on Saturday. I find it difficult to decide what to eat at the moment, I think my routine is still out of sync after the festive season. So I need to get my head in gear again.
Thoughts are with the sad, lonely and the poorlies as always
Take care x14 -
Morning all. Raining here but it did turn to sleet for a short while.
@dp1 DS and his fiancee went to Marrakech for 3 nights in November as a birthday treat. They thoroughly enjoyed it and sent photos of themselves on camel rides etc. Think they stayed in a traditional local style hotel.
Here DH and I are going to MK to buy new towels. I also want a couple of larger pyrex glass bowls so will have a hunt for those. We might have some soup for lunch in JL depending on timing. We were going to get the bus but will now go by car because of the weather.
@snoozer I do hope Laura got to the hospital this morning. Lots of disruption up North with the weather.
Have a good day everyone.15 -
Morning all - thanks for the start @Scarlet. No snow here, a heavy frost is making the fields look sparkly. Last night we had a spectacular sunset, the sky was fiery red with streaks of yellow and orange through it all. I didn't take this photo, a friend did from their house a little bit further north from me. The downside was that there was an earthquake around the Oban area, I either didn't feel it or slept through it!Yesterday I felt a lot better and so was rather productive. I took away the smelly bag and dropped into the local shop for some tenderstem and cream. At home I tackled a couple small but overlooked chores and put away the long-dried washing. Watching the Pottery show cheered me up, some of the salad sets were outstanding and I really felt for the young woman who burst into tears when she saw hers. Thanks @Iris - this morning I've been busy upstairs putting together a bag of unwanted clothes for the CS. I've brought down a shoe box of unused and now unwanted greeting cards. Not working any more means that I don't need a ready supply of emergency birthday cards so they are now clutter. Bear in mind that I retired nearly ten years ago!No exercise class for a while as the leader has gone off to India until mid-February, I have promised myself I'll do a series of things during her absence - maybe start later!@Coxy - you're knit and natter brought to mind the chalkboard sign outside a pub when I was in Australia in 2022.It still makes me laugh.I hope all goes well with everyone, especially those who are snowed in, flooded or simply unhappy. Take care all, hugs all round.

Morning all, well after having torrential rain last night all the snow has gone now. The sun is out but we're back to being very cold and we've had the gritter out on our road again this morning.
I managed to put all the xmas decoration boxes away yesterday except the tree, I need help with that.
I'll potter about until this afternoon when we're taking Dad to the opticians in town. Please wish me luck as he's moaning about it already so I hope he'll behave in the shop, I don't want to get ejected for anti social behaviour by association. I have told him that we will also take him to a sm to do some shopping afterwards, I must be mad !
Take care all, stay safe and upright if you have to go out. Hugs to anyone in need.
nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently12 -
Good morning all
Thank you for the start @ScarletRibbons
Wet out again but no snow thankfully..
Lovely pic @Izzy
Cooked double yesterday so only have to heat my meal today.
Not sure if to contact my utilities company. I used to pay a fixed direct debit but changed it to variable, ( pay for what I use each month) when I had a bit of a disagreement with them. It was early in the year, I was over £500 in credit and the price was going down, a bit. They decided I needed to increase the monthly amount by about 40%. Couldn't persuade them to see reason so asked for my credit back and changed payment. I do like having a little credit to cushion payments when I need extra heating.
Stay safe and warm, take care
If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.12 -
What a beautiful sunset GERS. I must stop speed reading though! I read you took away your smelly bag and dropped it into the local shop! x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"12

Hi everyone,
The wanderers returned at about 11.15 last night, I got up at sparrowfart to take Laura to the hospital, hopefully she'll be in theatre about now.
Esben is at home but Esther went tearfully into nursery as is her wont, it's heartbreaking seeing her little face with its wobbly lip.
They have already made a big impact on my tidy living room but it's lovely to have them home.
I have mushroom and bean curry to make for dinner and maybe will persuade Esben to make some cakes or banana bread to go in his lunchbox.
Nanny, good luck at the optician.
Have a good day.13 -
Morning! Cold here but I'm going to light the fire ina minute. Plans today are shower then go to the local hardware shop and get some handles for my spade and shovel [ I haven't been yet, been very slack] WIll also ask how viable having a bolt through instead of a peen is, because to be honest, I'm not seeing a reason why not. Also have the tree decorations to strip and take down and there will be culling. There are only about ten ornaments I really like the rest are filler. A lot of them I made with felt or cinnamon sticks so those will be scrutinised too.Nanny, good luck with himself. Gers, that is a spectacular sunset. Do you think it presaged the earthquake? Someone on th egardening thread said they felt one too last night but not sure geographically where they are. Izzy, hoe you're enjoyign enforced staying in, I loved your pictures, I would also like to be snowed in [ only me though the neighbours can live in a parallel dimension and not be snowed in
] SuffolkSue, hope you're feeling better, it's an awful thing. There is a lady form my mothers village who lost her daughter many years ago but you can still hear and see the pain whenever she talks about her. We make sure we do talk about her when we see her, because memory is love. SO, octopus seem to be quite good, thought about sitching? [unless you're already with them obviously] Coxy, we used to have a Stitch and B*tch
snoozer, hope it goes smoothly for Laura today. Take care all, including poodles, get your blankets out...
