        but it was otherwise exactly the same? I would say it clearly leaves everything to the children then so what does your stepmother think it says?

        How was the house owned?

        If they were joint tenants, the most likely position since they had been together for more than 50 years, then stepmother became owner of the house immediately on the death of the father. It would not have formed part of his estate.

        Brother might have been named as executor in the will but he has no obligation to carry the task out. Once he renounced, stepmother is the most likely family member to take on the role.
