Have Returns Process/Charges changed on eBay?

I'm wondering, did the returns process change on eBay?

I ordered an item the other day that was listed as new but when it arrived it had rust all around which was not indicated anywhere in the description. I messaged seller and informed them that I will have to return the item. The seller is private and accepts returns (Not that it should matter since this would be a SNAD. I went to return the item and chose the "Doesn't match description..." and the return has been accepted right away and label provided to return.

So is it that sellers cannot dispute a return anymore? With SNAD and other options the seller was allowed to respond to return request and offer refunds before providing the label. How is it that now the label is provided right away? What am I missing?

You aren't missing anything!! With an INAD/SNAD regardless of the sellers status in this instance they pay for the return postage, and refund you once the item has been received their end. They have once the item has been delievered three days to refund you. If they don't then you go back to the case and ask ebay to step in to escalate it.

Sellers in theory can dispute once the item is received, but the process of the case is immediate. Read the Ebay Money Back Gaurantee, it is applicable on most listings on ebay.

They changed it a few years back so certain sellers were enrolled in what you've experienced, no comms and straight in with the label, seller can still refund without return under this system.

Whether all sellers are in this system I don't know, some older accounts may still work under the old system where comms are available and a part refund can be offered to close the return.
