Travel insurance and medical bill

Evening all,
Son is studying in the US and as a condition of Uni entry, he had to take out Medical Insurance - this was through the US Uni's insurance partner. We also took out backpacker insurance with a UK company to cover travel and other stuff.
Son has recently had a medical condition which we claimed back through his US Medical insurance, however the excess is approx £250 (could have been mush worse without the insurance!)
Is it possible to claim back the excess through the backpacker insurance?

You may well find that the backpacker insurance also has an excess so it may not be worth trying to claim anything. Also, you may be opening a can of worms if the backpacker insurance does provide an element of medical cover. The US insurers may want to try to share the cost with the backpacker insurance.

The policy has a £125 excess so you'd only be claiming half of it back
He is likely to need a report from his GP to be able to make the claim and this is not an NHS service so he'd have to pay them. Costs vary notably between GPs, ours charge £50 for a basic form, £100 for a standard form without examination or £130 with an appointment.
It's possible it would cover it, you'd need to read the terms fully, but it's also possible he pays £100 to his GP to try and get £125 but the claim is declined.
£250 is a tiny excess for US health insurance, most with both an excess and co-pay pay a couple of thousand a year (though they are tax deductible)1
