Any entitlement to nursing care component?
Yes - thank you - but only after something of a fight.

Initially the conclusion was that his condition didn't qualify.  The fact that his dementia is so bad that he needs everything doing for him - like be directed to move, eat, use the bathroom and so on - wasn't sufficiently convincing to conclude that his needs were medical as opposed to social.

On review they've agreed to part (half) fund and the cynic in me can't help but feel the review process was a delay tactic.  The review panel took six months to change the decision and the evidence used was the same for both exercises.  I realise we're not the only ones in this situation, that funds are limited and that the process is bureaucratic.  But a lot can happen in six months . . .

Nevertheless, I'm grateful that some of the cost is being taken care of.

    Thanks again.

Par for the course. I sit in these reviews sometimes for my job and full funding is very rare - much more usual for people to get the FNC nursing top up unless there are serious behavioural challenges or there are very clear complex nursing needs.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

The attendance allowance is backdated if application successful to the enquiry date so phone them up ASAP.  You should get the full night rate.
