Incorrect Manual Meter reading for years - Now selling house

I know it is our own fault but we have an Economy 7 meter that is outside in a very poor position making it almost impossible to read.

Since owning the property (it has remained empty with little or no usage) we have been submitting what we thought were the night and day readings to our energy providers (we have switched many times over the years).

We have now sold the property and taking our final meter readings.  We have taken photos and looking through notice we have been submitting the wrong readings.

The daytime reading is correct, but the night time one is out by about 90 kWh.

I thought about submitting the correct reading now to our current provider, but we have switched providers so many times with the wrong opening/closing readings that I don't know how to do this.

It is only 90 kWh but when the new owners submit their opening reading it is going to be out.

Just to clarify, our night time reading submitted is higher than the actual reading on the meter.

Any ideas if it is possible to correct this now or going to cause the new owners issues?

Thanks

Surely you need to submit the readings anyway because you're moving out.

Please do let the provider know or else it may take a lot longer than it needs to for the new owners to get their accoutn set up properly.

90kWh is within the acceptable error margins when switching supplier or changing ownership. For an E7 night rate, it's probably less than £15 worth of electricity.
I'd just let it go as it is.

So you will effectively be getting back the overbilled 90 kWh from your latest supplier? I can't see a problem with this if this reading is still higher than the opening reading you gave them. Yes it isn't ideal that another supplier got to bill those 90 kWh, but it would likely cost more to sort it all out properly.
If it is going to result in negative consumption, then that is more of an issue, but if you have photographic evidence of the current reading then there's not much else you can do.
Unless you get in touch with the new owners to let them know the last incorrect reading and that they can have their first 90 units of night energy on you.

90kWh isn't that much.  It's about £21 of electricity on standard rate, and even less for night rate.  Consider it a small gift to the new homeowners.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

    Is it exactly 90, if so it’s a transposition e.g. 1780 vs 1870

Thanks for all the replies.  It isn't exactly 90, it was approximate.

It would be a negative consumption though because the opening/closing readings haven't changed between suppliers but was wrong so if the current provider changed the latest reading to the correct one it will be about 90kWh less than when I moved to them as a provider.

Just leave a note for the new owner explaining to submit the opening reading to match the one you've submitted. That way you'll all avoid any issues at all.
