1yr NCB expiry even if a named driver on another policy?

After passing her test my daughter earned her first years NCB before going off to university.
Since then she’s been a named driver on her sisters policy so she’s got use of a car when she returns home between terms. I’ve read that NCB expires after two years, does anybody know of insurance companies that will honour it longer if they’ve continued to drive (as named driver) on somebody else’s policy?

It's possible she might find an insurer willing to do a certain amount of "introductory discount" to mirror expired NCB, but she may well find that isn't portable at the end of the policy in the same way as "genuine" NCB would be.

For the sake of one year's worth, how much time and effort does she want to go to?

When she comes to take out her next policy in her own name, just find the best value policy that meets her requirements, same as ever.

Apparently Admiral are willing to recognise NCB for upto 3 years, but you’d need to check whether this is actually cheaper than another provider who doesn’t recognise it. NCB is not the big deal many assume.

Being a named driver doesn’t necessarily indicate they actually drive. I know a woman who is a named driver on her husband’s policy, yet hasn’t driven in more than 10 years. I guess that is not unusual…

My OH hasn't driven for over 20 years but has been a named driver on our policy for the last 30. Your daughter might get some joy with the company she is a named driver on. As above, not sure 1 year NCB will make a huge difference, probably get more from being a bit older and outside the first 2 years from passing her test.
