This is really weird.

Hi guys. Ok here goes.

I took out an Argos credit card in my name (can only be used at Argos) over 10 years ago. There are 2 cards one for me and another in my mum's name. Mum unbeknownst to me has run the card to its limit (£2500) and hasn't paid a penny since 2021. Any and all correspondence would have been sent to her address (I was living there when I got the card, but haven't lived there for 8 years).
Mum insists she has had no correspondence and has had nobody chasing the debt. I too haven't been contacted. The only reason I'm aware of this is I ran an in depth credit check recently. That shows I owe Home retail group (Argos) £2500. The report shows that monthly payments stopped in 2021.

I managed to retrieve the account number from some old correspondence at mums then tried to login to the MyArgoscard app. The following showed up:
Please call Argos card services as soon as possible quoting RA-005.

I do believe mum hasn't received any correspondence. She's a bit scatty at times but has  ALWAYS paid her way.

Regardless of that how is it I haven't been chased for this debt? With any credit check/online digging I'm very easily found.
I'm very confused. I'd love to hear your opinions.
Thank you so much.

Does your mum know what the money was initially spent on, or might it be fraudulent spending on the card?

Yes she does, it's not fraudulent.

If she has always paid her way and the charges are not fraudulent, then your mum needs to reimburse you the money.  Is she in a position to do so?

The hit on your credit score is unfortunate for you not keeping track of an open account and not redirecting post to your new address being the primary card holder.

Your plan of action will be based on what Argos tells you when you are able to talk with them directly.

If your mum knows what she spent on the card she knew she should have repaid what she owed instead of waiting for a bill or demand. She can't really pay her way in that circumstance.

Then going forward, you ask for interest to be stopped and put a payment plan together between you and mum, I think

The worst part in all this is your mum's behaviour. Racking up a bill in your name, not paying it and not telling you.

Definitely one way to kill trust.

I spoke with Argos card services and am now 2.5k worse off than yesterday. Anyhoo the upside is I just had a tax refund of ....yup 2.5k. I asked Argos why hadn't been chased for the money? They simply said we don't do they anymore.
So the Lord does give and take away!
    Thanks you beautiful MS gang.

I don't think it did, I expect the OP paid the £2.5K that was owing and was at that point £2.5K worse off than they were earlier in the day.
