CareCo Good or Bad?

Options
Hello Everyone,

I hope I posted in the right section. My father is looking to buy a new Chair, he is looking for a rise and recline as he is stuggling to get out the chair and he likes to manually move the back.

He has seen one he likes at CareCo at £750 he has a 21 month free credit card and was thinking of getting two, one for him and one for me. However, before jumping into it he decided to test soem others out, we visited 3 more shops today, HSL, a local disability supplier and another company but I can't remember which however, there pricing around the £1500+ mark and now wondering about the quality of the chair from CareCo with them been a good chunk of a price difference.

I've done a bit of goggling and there is some mixed reviews regarding the quality, some raving, some not so much however alot of positive regarding the customer care when buying.

He previously had a couch and two chairs from HSL and it was terrible, turned out they were selling them off and no longer deal with that brand due to this (he wasn't told this at the time), and our current ones are from Wayfair and the quality is also terrible so he is very reluctant to jump in on a good price again.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You :)

I don't think there's any substitute for lots of testing.  When you're spending £1500-3000 on two chairs it's reasonable to spend lots of time in the showrooms testing them.  Online reviews can be misleading unless there's an obvious theme.  Lots of satisfied people don't bother to leave reviews and unhappy customers are unusually vocal.  If there are lots of reviews I usually ignore the 1* and 5* reviews and look at the others for what is normally a more objective assessment.  The fact that CareCo's chair is half the price of that of three other suppliers does suggest it's of lower quality.  You should also look at any warranties each offers.  Some may be better than others, but fundamentally his consumer rights should address most problems.  Definitely use a credit card for purchase - should your chosen retailer cease to trade in future, the card provider is equally liable.  That protection may only apply to the chair he buys for himself - I think there are rules around the beneficiaries of Section 75 protection.  If that's the case, I'd buy your own chair on your own credit card.

The other thing to consider is whether your father qualifies for VAT relief on the purchase of his chair, on account of any medical condition or disability.
