No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries Jan 2025

  • Hi! Newbie here. I'm joining in to hold myself accountable and track progress as I have more toiletries / cosmetics than I could possibly need right now and I'm not sure how it keeps happening! My long-term goal is to have a very small stash of stuff that I know and love to use often (I managed to do it once so I hope I'll be able to get there again!).

My current situation for January 2025 (so far):

    UU:
    • Nivea Rose & Argon Oil Body Lotion 400ml - HG, WBA. This was my 3rd or 4th bottle. Does the job and smells lovely, like Johnson's baby lotion. Will be a while before I re-purchase as I have a few other moisturisers sitting in my stockpile to get through first!

    NBIs:
    • Pond's Nourishing Lotion 50ml - Gift from my MIL (I also have another one from her from 1+ year ago still sitting my my cupboard).
    • Pond's Cold Cream 6ml - Gift from my MIL.
    • Bath & Body Works Hibiscus Paradise Fine Fragrance Mist 236ml - About 40% remaining. I took this off my MIL as she doesn't like the smell of it, but I do.
    • Mama Mio Pregnancy Boob Tube 30ml - Came as part of a baby box.
    • Mama Mio Tummy Rub Butter 240ml - Came as part of a baby box.
    • Beauties Skincare Coconut Hydrating Foot Pack - Came as part of a baby box.
    • Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil (20ml) & Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks (20ml) - Free samples.

    PPs:
    • The Body Shop Fijian Water Lotus perfume 100ml - I've had this since 2017! Currently using it up as a bathroom spray as it doesn't smell very nice anymore (unsurprisingly).
    • Nivea Pearly Shine lip balm - I've had this for a while and it came as part of a larger toiletries set. It's very hydrating but it makes my lips look awful so I only wear it to bed at night. This is the second time that I've had this lip balm and I didn't like it back then so I'm not sure why I thought it would be any different this time :|
    • Lidl Pure Olive Body Lotion 300ml - Nothing bad, does the job, I just have some unopened moisturisers sitting in my stockpile.

Welcome aboard @blossomingrose you're in the right place!

Have a couple of UU's to report:

Rituals The Ritual of Hamman Mini Foaming Shower Gel - WNBA, while I love the scent and the way it leaves my skin feeling, I find I go through these really quickly for how much they cost (this was a freebie).  Think I might have one more shower gel and then it's on to soap for me (trying to be more conscious about the plastic I'm "consuming")

Max Factor Honey Love eyeshadow - WBA, picked one up yesterday to replace this one.  Use it everyday as a base shadow.
    Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £
    LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000
    Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 2017

Another out - going well this month so far

    Soothing Apricot Toner - Elemis

This is the last bottle of a set of 3 I bought from QVC years ago.

WBA if it was a good price.

Replaced with a Jordan Samuel Skin Hydrate the Mist
Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without

@Hodgepodge QVC still have the Elemis Christmas TSV in stock and selling at a Feature Price of £78.00. It contains the toner. From your posts you use other Elemis products so you might think it worth buying.

Ive just re-ordered an Australian Bodycare kit which is a repeated TSV i bought in April last year as a Feature Price. Ive tried using Original Source Tea Tree and Mint but its too strong for my intimate bits!  Sadly it doth butter no parsnips as Joe Lycett says! The kit contains 1L bottle and 3 x 500ml nottles.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, @VALM and @ruby_eskimo!  How funny you just finished the Sol de Janeiro shower gel!  I do quite like the scent, though yes quite sweet n slightly cakey-ish so I can see that it wouldn't be for everyone!

@ruby_eskimo I think I am going to do the same and switch to soap after my scented shower gel is gone, as I have at least two nice smelling ones in the stash, so that will save some cash moving forward as they'll last ages!  And well done on finishing an eyeshadow!

@VALM that sponge set was a bargain!

My bestie is also a January baby and we always celebrate together, so we went out for a lovely dinner yday, and there were gifts :D , so some more INs but not with my money:
    • Beauty Bay- Rich eyeshadow palette- 9 pan: It's an all matte warm-toned brown palette. It is pretty, and a good basic palette to add any of my lovely autumnal shimmers to.
    • Beauty Bay- Liquid Highlighter in Disco: Exciting, never tried one of these before- it gives a lovely sheen with a pinkish warm shimmer, very nice!
    • Malin + Goetz Fragrance Discovery Kit:  A lovely set of 6 travel-size samplers, of some interesting sounding scents like Leather and Dark Rum.  I really like a travel set to get an idea of the kinds of scents I like, it's very fun.  A really nice gift from my friend! <3
INs with birthday money (so gifts again):
    • Natalie Pete Shower gel and moisturiser: little travel sized items.  They came in a beautiful Christmas tin that I wanted, and so the shower gel and moisturiser coming into my life was unintentional consequences of that!

And one IN that I actually bought myself:
    • Alter/Native Cedarwood Shaving Bar 95G: Current one is now an unusable slither, so replaced with this one.  Do prefer a shave bar to anything else. Will see if I like this scent.

And a SLOW month for outs- UU:

    • Eco Warrior Moisturising Boys & Girls Shaving Bar - Bergamot & Lime Essential Oils 100gScent was alright. Good shave bar though, wba
    Jan Grocery Challenge 2023:  £181.18/£400
    OSWLC 2023 Q1:  0/10

    Another 3 gone
The Matinee Gel Cleanser - Jordan Samuel Skin WBA Already have a full size in my stash
Gentle Face Exfoliator - Liz Earle WNBA Used to love this but my skin hates physical exfoliators now  :(
Pro-Collagen Night Cream - Elemis MBA But no need as I have a lot of moisturisers to get through first...

I think this is one of those good months where a lot of stuff just happens to come to an end. Unfortunately it's usually followed by a couple of slow months.

January total stash 104 (back to my all time low
    :))
    Ins 0
    Outs 10
Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without

@Hodgepodge I never got on with the LE Exfoliator because of the fragrance. I am however using the Instant Boost Skin Tonic at the moment and had forgotten how lovely a product ir is. I wont pay LE prices anymore though. I have a mist from my Glossybox to use when the LE IBST is done.

Amother UU - Blabzbeautybar Cinnamon Buns cuticle oil. Love these. Have 2 more left to use.

I also threw away a Colourpop Supershock eyeshadow called Drift. It was totally dry and whilst I have Duraline I never loved the colour (came in a set) so its gone.

    Afternoon all.

Have 1 UU to report for today:

Ilyoon Ceramide Ato Cream - WBA, this was quite a basic moisturiser but great for the colder weather.  Didn't make my oily skin any oilier and a bonus was it didn't break me out.  Moved on to a mini moisturiser from the M&S advent calendar.
