Business Energy contract

Hi,
Need some advise please. My friend has signed 3 contracts via energy consultant from beginning  to the end it was nothing but series of lies.
Ombudsman also sided with them even though energy company couldn't provide the phone records or anything and upon asking for evidence they provide the wrong contract.  So he is still stuck with those contract for next 5 years. My question is the consultant put my friends name on the tenants buisness and whilst they were doing that they said it's nothing to worry about ad its just to confirm the address purposes and we can change it later on but once they got the contract and their money, they aren't intrested doing anything and (Energy company aren't intrested as they want him to talk to the energy consultant)
Basically my friend is a landlord and his name is on the bills and with some one else's business name on it.
Any advise will be helpful !
Thanks

Business contracts don't get the same protection that consumer ones do; businesses are meant to know what they're doing.
However, this all sounds a bit fishy. Can you explain more about the relationship between your friend and this business that he's being billed for?

  • Thanks for your reply. The buisness is not my friends ,its his tenenats and the energy broker put the buisness in his name as he couldn't find the address( that's what he has been told) and reassure him they can change it later on, in the tenants name but now the only solution energy broker gave him is to ask tenants for the money every month and pay the bill like this as they can't change it. My friend has nothing to do with this business ( buisness name on the bills). He is the landlord. My friend also has a business next door of his own and these bills should be in his business name but that's apparently not possible either .
It's very weird . I also can't get my head around, how did they manage to do this.

This makes no sense.  You say your friend signed 3 contracts for something they're not even involved in.  Why did he do that?
If the business is nothing to do with him and he's happy for a business to run from that property then why aren't the utilities mentioned in the name of the business?  If its a limited company it should have a director, and if its a sole trader (or a partnership) somebody has to effectively be in charge.

Something's not right here.  Yes you don't have consumer protections on business anything basically as you are acting on behalf of the business and need to know what you're committing to so...

Unfortunately issues with business providers even if they are gas/electric, internet or whatever, its pretty much unregulated.  All you can do is put your complaints down in writing and hope they are sympathetic and fix whatever the complaint is.

It all sounds very unwise.  Your friend could unwittingly become involved in money laundering which has heavy penalties.
Sounds a bit like a overseas student who returns home at the end of their course and lets someone else use their bank account because they no longer need it.  They don't realise they'd be liable for anything dodgy going on in their name.
