My Off-grid and need to be frugal diary

Joedenise thanks the pattern looks great, just the kind of thing I’m looking for. I'm just a bit wary about using some patterns in case they are for private use only. It’s given me some good ideas though.

The generator has been on again today so it’s going to be an expensive winter. I’ve more or less finished the hen egg cosies and I’ve been looking for some Crème Egg covers that I knit a while ago, but I can’t find them anywhere. One of the reasons the house needs a good clear out is that I can’t find where I put anything. DH is worse though.

It’s hard to believe that a week of the New Year has passed already – time is certainly flying by.

The generator has been on again this morning, but it is very windy tonight so the turbine is topping up the batteries.

Poor DH slipped on the ice but fortunately he wasn’t hurt. It took him a while to get up as he just couldn’t get traction under his feet. The dog thought it was a great game though and gave his face a wash with her tongue – yuk! When he went out again tonight, he wore some shoe grips so that he’s unlikely to fall again.

It’s been a nothing sort of day. I’ve done bits and pieces but nothing really note worthy.

It’s so cold outside today and the ice is still inches thick, still the house is cosy and warm. The moor looks beautiful under the snow though. I’ve just realised I haven’t seen any deer yet which is unusual; they are normally much easier to spot against the snow.

When our large dog was young, she was a bit wild on walks, so DH tried lots of different leads and harnesses until he found one he was satisfied with. Most of them were only used once or twice before he discarded them. She’s now a very sensible (mostly) adult dog so DH has finally sorted through all the dog leads and harnesses and I’ll be dropping them off at an RSPCA charity shop next time I pass it.

I’ve collected all of my many cookery books together and laid them all out on the dining room table. I’ll sort through them tomorrow and I think a lot of them will be going to the charity shop too.

Gosh - that sounds awkward for your DH, it's been lethal with the thawing and refreezing, hope it's all gone now.

Beckstar1975 it's unlike DH to complain as he loves the outdoors, so it must have been bad. It’s amazing what a difference a single day makes. Most of the ice has gone so the roads are clear. It's just some of the verges that are still icy.

 DH has been out to the village to post a couple of eBay sales.

I’ve worked through the cookery books and have 34 to take to the charity shop. Although I might try to sell a couple of the unusual ones on Ziffit.

Tomorrow I’m going to tackle a pile of paperwork. I try to deal with any paperwork I receive straight away. DH has been stacking his so I have a big pile to go through.

It’s been windy here today so the turbine has kept the batteries topped up.

Tonight I'm just watching some stuff on Prime Video and eating a packet of crisps. I love crisps, but I try not to eat too many.

I've got the remnants of a migraine so have just had a packet of crisps for lunch too - nice and salty. Sometimes nothing else will do!

Beckstar1975 I hope the migraine has gone. They are so debilitating. All this talk of crisps makes me want a crisp sandwich.

I was going to sort out some paperwork, but I decided to sort some crafting things out instead. I finally found some bears I’d made to go with some Christmas stockings (a bit late now), but at least now the stockings and bears are matched up. Different coloured stockings and different coloured bears but here’s an example. The stockings are just big enough for two or three sweets.

Oh they are lovely. Love the idea of creme egg chicks too, creme eggs are my absolute downfall

Beckstar1975 thanks. I still can't find the Creme Egg covers - it just shows how messy the house is. I tend to put things in bags to keep them clean and then stuff the bags into boxes with other stuff to keep them contained. I must start doing better.

It’s been one of those days. DH had an appointment in town but the car boot wouldn’t close. A reset sorted that problem but as it’s never happened before it took a while to figure out the reset. He did make his appointment on time though - just. Then the toilet wouldn’t flush because the water tank had run dry. Once the tank was filled from the well pump though the toilet worked. Luckily, it didn't cause an airlock.

On the plus side DH went grocery shopping and bagged a couple of bargains and posted a couple more small eBay sales.

I’ve just done the normal household stuff, but did manage to put new elastic into a few elasticated bead bracelets.

Love the bears. Have you considered making them in an Easter egg and selling them for the Easter holidays?
