Happy New Year everyone.

Not quite sure where to put this as it doesn't seem to fit into any category but I could do with help form someone more savvy.

I use Facebook but only to keep in contact with family who are spread across the country and a few friends. I'm not one of these who have 2852 fake friends. Its just a simple way for group family messaging.

During the last 3 or 4 weeks I've noticed a build up of irritating things popping up on my feed. Numerous newspaper ads, ridiculous clips of some random person trying to show me how to tidy my cupboards, endless fake news about Harry & Megan etc, etc, etc.

The last few days I have spent ages going into them all and blocking them so they wont appear again but as fast as I am blocking one I am inundated with another ten.

I'm quite private with only certain people able to see my page and Ive searched through privacy and settings to try to stop them appearing but cant seem to stop them.
At first I didnt really notice as it was just the odd one or two but the last few days I have realised that it has built up to a ridiculous level. Yesterday I blocked over 70 of them and there were load more.

Can anyone suggest how I get rid of them please. I know its not a 3rd world problem but its annoying.

If you only want something for contact with family & friends. Switch to Whats App creating a group for each. No stupid adds or anything else. Just messages from the people you want.

Facebook does my head in with all the silly sponsored crap & no amount of doing as you do stops it. In fact I wonder if the more you block them, the more they add to your feed.

I deleted my Facebook account for all the reasons you gave, plus it's a haven for scammers. Just use WhatsApp messages and video calls.

There isn't a way to stop the way Facebook displays things on the home page. For everything that you block, they will find more random stuff to show you.

Ignore it, and use Feeds this will only show you posts from people and pages that you follow.

You can access it by tapping the 9 dot grid and tapping Feeds.
You can view All, or further filter into Favourites, Friends, Groups, Pages.

I didn't know that, and it's so useful! Thank you! I'm still getting some 'sponsored' posts, but not nearly as many, and I can see what I want to see, not the million other things I don't want to see!!

Noticed exactly same in past 3-4 weeks particularly.

No useful ideas on how to prevent, I just go "ho-hum" and block them
