Hello everyone
just a quick catch up. I've been so busy with trying to sort out the house move I don't know if I'm coming or going. Nearly there, I have had the keys for about three weeks and have made a start, carpets cleaned and have started moving smaller items in each day. The official move in date is Thursday (day after tomorrow). It's been a long haul, rather stressful and unnecessarily complicated.......
what is it about modern life that everything seems so much more difficult, more complicated, more time consuming than it ever used to be. Is that my age speaking, have I finally become "old". Am I turning into that grumpy old woman who just cba lol. In all seriousness I have moved house many times but it has never felt as bad as this in the past. And the expenses and fees😱. I swear, it seems a house move is just a licence to print money. I console myself with the fact that it's a lovely house and I am sure I will be very happy there.I have already met my immediate neighbour and she seems delightful. I went away last week for a mini break. I put my dustbin out for collection and she very kindly returned it back to my house for me. That bodes well.Had a lovely holiday in the peak district with my family. The weather was glorious.Right better have something to eat. I have spent a ridiculous amount of time today trying to sort out broadband for my new property. Currently with Virgin, wanted to simply transfer to my new home but no they can't do it even though they already supply next door. What a rigmarole. Took me around an hour on the phone trying to sort it out. Charming operative but utterly hopeless. Now I have a splitting headache. In the end I had to cancel and then change to a new provider. Just easier. There is an early redemption fee (of course). Even though it's their inability to provide a timely service that forced me to terminate my contract. So........I have to pay the fee and then reclaim it back because "we are unable to provide the service so of course you don't have to pay the penalty fee".Why not just cancel the fee in the first place. Is that really too difficult. Or does the computer "say no". Lol.My solicitor has overcharged me, she had acknowledged it and promised me a refund.....that was three weeks ago, still waiting. So I've sent her a gentle reminder.........
And so it goes.......just one damned thing after another. Lol Why is everyone so cavalier with my money. I'm ok I have reserves to fall back on so provided I do get it all back eventually it's no real hardship but for first time buyers or those whose budget is really stretched it must be very stressful. All in all I will be down around £500. Ok, Not a fortune and I will be reimbursed but that's not the point.I just have to keep reminding myself that it is a lovely house and it will all be worth it in the end. 🤞.7 -
I hope you manage to get your broadband setup quickly, our neighbours have been in 3 months and are still having problems getting connected to the internet, the previous owners were connected and they have had engineers out a few times and an awful lot of problems including computer says no. The joy of living in slightly unusual older properties to add to the frustration the houses at the bottom of our gardens are less than 20 years old and part of a modern housing estate, so it's not even like we are remote.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

Good Afternoon My Lovely FriendsWell I eventually managed to get my broadband set up, had to change suppliers though, what a performance!!! I wont bore you with all the details.......alls well that ends well. Lol. Thankfully the utilities were less problematical (assuming they all fulfill their promises. Ha ha). Halfway through the council tax. apparently although I have moved only a couple of miles down the road I am now in a different part of the county as far as administration goes. All very complicated but hopefully it will all come out in the wash. Anyway the worst is over. 🤞
I have been in a week and feel at home already. I have unpacked most of the boxes. I had to because the movers put all the boxes in the wrong places, despite me drawing them a detailed plan and every box being clearly labelled. Rather than waste time and energy moving the boxes to their rightful rooms I decided to just crack on and empty them and put everything away properly. I will need to reorganise again at some point but for now it's fine. I do need to address the storage. I've got my handyman coming today to cut the overgrown lawns so I'll be discussing a programme of works with him. He tends to have a pretty busy diary in the summer so I will probably be looking at getting started on decorating and buying new furniture next autumn/winter.So far so good. Just need to deep clean the bungalow before the 30th and then looking forward to spending the summer in my garden. I really like it here, it's nice and quiet and I have room to spread out and breathe.Hope you are all well and happily enjoying your champagne lifestyle. I must admit I feel like a Queen Bee in my lovely new home. I think i am going to be very happy here. I think my vita is going to be very dolce. 🤣8 -
Go you @helensbiggestfan!!! Unpacking most of your boxes in your first week. Wow just wow. It sounds as if you are finally in your happy place. There are bound to be a few hiccups when you move, but worth it for ultimate happiness. Every wish that your home will always feel this good.1

helensbiggestfan said:Good morning my lovely friends.Well my Valentine weekend was fab-u-lous. No man in my life of course but I have my sons and my gorgeous grandsons so that will do me. 😁 (However, never say never😂🤣). Although my husband would be a hard act to follow I remain open minded.......one never knows what lies in store for us.
. When I was 44 and divorced I went on an over 40s singles Christmas break. It was terrific. I got fairly friendly with a lovely 48 year old man. He phoned me up a few weeks later and we went out for a nice meal. 6 weeks later we got engaged. We celebrate our 30th anniversary next year, we’re still happily engaged.

What a lovely story, Murphybear. 💕.Well here I am, happily settled in my new home. I love it already. It's still upside down and I've got a long way to go to get it how I want it, but I am happy to take my time.Tbh i found this move to be very stressful and it has somewhat knocked the stuffing out of me, I'm very tired and feeling a little below par so I am going to take things a bit more gently from now on. Time to ease off a bit and make the most of this lovely weather. Although I understand we're in for a couple of chilly days - typical bank holiday........lol.So for now, it's steady as she goes, rest and recuperate, potter about, enjoy the summer. One thing the move highlighted is just how much STUFF I have, now that I'm unpacking and sorting through it all I realise that I don't need, want or even like some of it. It's time to let go....so I'm going to have a major purge.Starting with the kitchen. Going to get rid of the useless unused gadgets, treat myself to some new cookware and crockery.Out with the old and in with the new.......a little splurge but in true MSE style.6
