The wild weather lasted for a good part of yesterday before becoming calm and dry. However the wildness has returned overnight and forecasted to stay bad into tomorrow. The outdoor Hogmanay celebrations in Edinburgh have been cancelled because of the threat to life. I'd still prefer snow.Yesterday's highlight was watching The Titchfield Thunderer. I switched off Death on the Orient Express as Albert Finney is dreadful in it and he spends the last hour shouting. His portrayal of Poirot is so stilted and weird. Lunch was chicken, couldn't face the last portion of the venison so that'll be freezer bound today. If I don't get back until next year I wish everyone here and their families a happy, peaceful and prosperous 2025. This year has been tough for so many, worrying about OH's, dear parents, adult children and the younger generations too. Ill health, death of loved ones, visiting great places, hot holidays, washouts and all the other assorted life events all happened to us and were shared here. Thanks for all it.I won't be awake at the bells and haven't even got a steak pie in. 😀 Happy Hogmanay, all the best for 2025. 💕18

Morning allThanks for the start Gers. I also want to wish everyone a happy new 2025. As Gers said some of you have had a very difficult year and can just hope next year can be more positive and peaceful.Nothing on the cards today here apart from giving the bathroom and downstairs toilet a scrub. Dusting and hoovering can wait until all the decs come down tomorrow.Have a good day all x17

Good morning, thanks for starting Gers. I saw part of Murder on the Orient Express and I couldn't believe Albert Finney! What a terrible Poirot he made, I switched over to something else.
We always stay up to see in the New Year and will try to this year if dh can stay awake.
Mehefin, sorry to hear that you had a bit of a row with your ds but you've got it out, and it needed saying.
Rosy red, what a horrible experience for your dd, hope she's ok.
Happy New Year to everyone, hope 2025 is a good year for all of us.
Thinking of the poorly/ sad people, take care folks.

Morning
Just a bit blowy here but thinking of all the folk with much worse weather.A quick trip to the shops needed to change some trousers bought for DDad’s birthday and get some bits for his birthday meal on Thursday.I might have a nosey in the shops - went to The Range yesterday and got loads of reduced bits of decorations and craft bits - it was like a jumble sale!I’ll likely just about stay up past midnight though might ned a nap inbetween.Happy New Year/Hogmanay to all and best wishes for 2025

Morning folks and thanks GERS. I echo all your thoughts of our posters over the last year, happy memories for some but sad memories for others. And nothing we can do anything about except share the good times and offer our sympathy and support over the bad. I hope the New Year brings happier times for us all.
My little trip out yesterday didn't get beyond town! Maybe attempting too much too soon! So all I did was a restock of paracetamol (in case another lurgy hits!) a jar of coffee and some small freezer bags (for leftovers!) then back home. I think the mini excursion may have helped my sleeping though as, after a long string of sleepless nights, I actually slept from 11 pm until 6.15 am this morning. That has to be a record for me and I thought the clock was wrong and had to double check on my phone!
Nothing too taxing planned for today other than a pile of shredding and the end of month banking. As I haven't been out to spend anything over the last 4 or 5 weeks that won't take long! The strong wind and heavy rain has still to get here but is on it's way says the local forecaster. A day for staying warm and cosy indoors. Stay safe everybody affected and, once again, I hope the New Year brings better things for us all. Take care all and ((HUGS)) for the poorly poodles, sad or lonely xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"11 -
Good morning all. All quiet outside at present, the calm before the storm.
I got most of my jobs done yesterday, just a couple to do today. I went shopping for the three things on my shopping list and came back with two bagsful. It was utter chaos in the supermarket, mainly because the staff were trying to take down Christmas stuff and restock the shelves, probably with Easter items. I didn't hang around long enough to find out. So I bought more than I intended, but it's all things we will use.
YL, I also intend to do a low spend month, should be easy given how much we have in. We'll see.
Ruby, what an awful experience for your DD, I hope she feels less shaken today.
Mehefin, words had to be said, I hope it improves your relationship with your son.
Taff, thanks again for the Carol's, some I'd forgotten about.
Finally, I wish all my new friends on here a happy and healthy New Year. Thank you all for welcoming me. My thoughts are with those who lost loved ones and the poorly. May 2025 be kind to all.13 -

Good morning all and thanks for the start @Gers x
I echo the sentiments - this is such a supportive thread, be it a shoulder to cry on, a sounding board to vent to or cheering each other on. Let’s hope 2025 is happy and healthy for us all.We are with friends tonight back in our old town, I am driving so may have a nap later as I know it’ll be a late trip home.Whatever you are up to, stay safe and enjoy x

Hi everyone,
I've just been reading back and wanted to commiserate with Mehefin. Apart from disbursing the money from mum's estate (I was joint executor with the brother I still have occasional contact with, although I did all the admin) I have had no contact with 3 of my brothers since her funeral 10 years ago. I hasten to add that I don't think they have contact with each other either so it's not me specifically. As you say, families.
Redruby, what a horrible person, I hope your daughter is feeling ok now.
For once I feel a gadabout as we'll be out celebrating the New Year although it looks like the planned fireworks will be damp squibs.
Have a good day and a Happy New Year however you spend it.13
