ID Theft

Options
Does anyone know what to do if you have your ID stolen and the fraudster applies for numerous applications for loans, credit cards , Hp. There are loads of unknown hard and soft checks on my credit file nothing to do with me. I have reported to action fraud who can't do anything but am terrified on what might happen. There's too many to contact all the company's and some of them I can't even find numbers for or can't get through to a person as I don't have an account with them.

You can start by using protective registration with CIFAS

Experian will contact any of the lenders that show on your Experian report on your behalf, see https://www.experian.co.uk/consumer/identity/what-to-do-if-victim.html

But you also need to get Equifax and TransUnion reports and yourself contact any lenders that show on those but not on Experian.
  • Thank you I have contacted experian and they are helping but it's becoming impossible to contact them all ourselves as there is a very lot of them and some we cannot find contacts for or can't get past the bots as they require account info that we don't have
  • We have also applied with Cifas which will hopefully stop any more

List the lenders you don't have contacts for that aren't appearing on the Experian report.

Just to be clear, are you saying that there are a lot of actual loans and cards taken out in your name, rather than just searches?
  • This is getting more common now
  • If anyone is reading this I thought I would just keep you up to date. This is still happening to my partner and myself. Numerous hard searches for credit applications, more over night. A PayPal credit card is showing on my partners report as being given, apart from that it is all hard and soft searches. It's a complete nightmare, we have been on the phone and emailing people all day every day for an entire week. Company's are struggling to find the applications as we cannot provide them with account numbers it's been paid into or email address that's been used or reference numbers associated with the applications. We are just hoping the credit bureaus get further than we can. We pray that it all gets sorted.
Stay safe out there guys you don't want this happening to you the stress is making us ill. Make sure you open mail that says to the occupier as we have also had the fraudsters try to redirect our mail.
