  • Nice one sammiboo, for achieving your first financial target so quickly although I'm gutted that someone else has beaten me to it!

I achieved my target number 6 today by opening an esaver and arranging a £10 month payment to it from my current account. AND I did it through a cashback site and so hopefully, so long as it tracks, I should get £33 cashback, which means I've also achieved my own personal challenge of making an extra £1 per day for the rest of January. Hurrah!

  • 2008 financial targets:

    1. pay mortgage & bills each month (by the end of each month - no more late payment charges)

    2. clear council tax arrears (approx £400, was approx £750 last year)

    3. clear debenhams and argos cards (approx £700 total)

    4. reclaim bank & credit card charges (awaiting 14th jan...)

    5. increase income - earn an average of £1/day additional income (£365 per year)

    6. open esaver account - pay in additional income (cashback, co-op divi chq, earnings from crafts/paintings sales, ebay/amazon/preloved sales, website affiliate commission)

    7. open ISA, pay £10 month minimum

    8. follow up tax credits complaint and claim expenses & compensation

    9. keep better control by doing weekly budget updates - sat mornings

    10. Quit smoking - save £839.50 (365 days @ £2.30/day) - I haven't really thought this one through properly but I want to make myself a "smoking costs" calender to put on the wall and each day I smoke I lose £2.30 from my £839.50 annual figure.

    A year on...

    I've achieved numbers 1, 2, 5, 6 and 9, and half of number 3.
Reasonably good considering the year brought redundancy, illness and bereavement but still alot more to do.

Watch out for new thread "2009 - financial targets".

  • Here are my financial goals for 2008 - bit different from last year's! :)

    1. Pay off the remaining 9k off my interest only mortgage.
    2. Continue to pay £600 per month into mine and Mrs Dither's pension accounts (2x£300), which should hopefully get us to the £90k pension pot mark.
    3. Save up 6 month's worth of our monthly outgoings (£20,460) - already have 12k so only £8460 to go.
    4. Save up for next year's income tax demand (approx 14k).

If there is any cash left after that little lot, I'll start making in-roads into the home extension mortgage loan (currently about 47k).

    My annual update:

    1. Paid this down with just £1980.72 remaining on my IO mortgage.
    2. Did continue this and I have overtaken this target.
    3. Decided to put away 12 months worth of savings due to recession fears - hence the reason I didn't achieve #1.
    4. Saved this up and will be paying it next week at some point.

    My 2009 financial targets:

    1. Pay off the remaining £1980.72 on my Interest Only mortgage.
    2. Continue paying into our pensions and increase to £100k.
    3. Save up for July's Income Tax demand (£6k).
    4. Get our mortgage down below £90k.
