Letter from - Capquest / opus /arrow Global

I Received a letter on 24/12/2024 from Capquest Debt Recovery Telling me i owe £1050 and if i pay £262.50 by 3rd January  they would wipe the rest of the debt off. The debt was a provident loan from 23 years ago , This is the first time i have herd anything about it and have lived at 4 different addresses since i had this loan, i cannot remember if i owe that much as its been 23 years , so ive had now contact at all in 23 years and suddenly a letter arrives , surely this debt is statue-barred as ive had no contact. I actually had 2 letters one from Arrow Global saying they had took over ownership of my credit agreement from Provident on 01/06/2023. all the letter states regarding the loan is the name of the loan company and the amount owed , and Ref Number. There's no dates regarding this loan, Please could someone give me some advice as i have not responded to this letter as of yet.

If you haven't acknowledged that you owe the money in the intervening years, it will be statute barred.  But they are hoping you don't know that.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
  • Thanks for your quick reply. Do i ignore this letter, or do i send a letter stating i don't acknowledge this debt, then they would have to send me proof that its not statue-barred if they want to carry on pursuing this matter,

  • i too received this letter on behalf of my dad who is bedridden and 84 yrs old - I have POA and he has absolutely no outstanding debt - debt says its arrow and Barclays partner company. I have so far ignored it as i thought it was a scam , it worries me that they may become heavy handed as dad is cared for by carers and has dementia , he is 150 miles away from us.
surely this is illegal- it claims he owes over 9 grand but if he pays online they will reduce it to 2k .
should i ignore it as i don't want to acknowledge receipt.

If the alleged debt is from more than 6 years ago, you can do what you want.  Because there's nothing they can do to enforce it.
    If it sticks, force it.

  • they basically have just demanded money and no background as to what it could be but i have been looking after dads affairs for 7 years and before that he was abroad.
