Newly fitted bathroom...and the bath is cracked?

Hello!

We had a new bathroom fitted the week of 25th November, everything was supplied and fitted by the company we chose to use. We decided to have some spotlights and ceiling panelling fitted which they needed to re visit and do (it wasn't part of our original quote) which they did on the 18th December; which my mum was in the house for as myself & my partner couldn't have it off work. She said that they had been stood in the bath (trainers on) while fitting things to the ceiling above the bath, so I checked it for scratches/cracks at the time and it all seemed fine, admittedly I only checked the bottom of the bath where I assumed they would stand.

Over the past few days I have noticed what I believe to be a crack in the corner (I've attached a picture). It seems a little too strangly shaped to be a scratch, so to me it's definitely a crack. It's under where the showerscreen sits along the edge of the bath.

Before I contact the company, where do I stand? Should I be expecting them to replace the bath? Will they say it's not a crack? Not their fault?

What are my options please? Obviously it's quite large and annoying, and if it is a crack, I don't want any leaks or for it to get worse.

Please help 🙃

Thanks!

    Is that a new bath?
The white silicone looks like it has mould on/in it after a few weeks.
If the bath was alright when you inspected it after the sparkies left it maybe hard to prove they did it but then it could be an issue with the bath installation.

'Stood in the bath' or was it stood on the bath? It looks like pressure has been put on that corner but that could also have been damage caused when the shower screen was fixed.

Have to agree with the other poster, if that is a new bath there should be no mould on the silicone. What is the white mark running along the shower screen door?

New bath yes. It's not mould, it was quite a dusty job so I think it's dust that has settled in the silicone when it was still wet. Is this something you think I should ask to be replaced also?

I am unsure if it was 'in' or 'on' as obviously it was only briefly they were watched as she came to the toilet. I think the silcone has dust which has dried into it, as it was quite a dusty job. Do you think I should ask for this to be replaced?

Do you mean the white mark along the silver part? As that is just a reflection of the light.

I would definitely want that silicone replacing. They should have made sure everywhere was clean before doing that. That is terrible work.

A photo showing the whole shower screen install would be useful.

I think the bath had the damage prior to installation or possibly during installation. Either impact damage during transportation or maybe someone stood on the corner.  It looks like dust and dirt has got into the hairline cracks now making them visible.

Its new bath time, unless it was particularly expensive bath where a surface refinish may be possible As an installer stuff like this is a nightmare and costs a fortune to sort out, but that comes with the territory.

Approach the installers gently and don't just say "I want a new bath", customer attitudes really does dictate outcomes in these situations. If all the work was done via the same firm as supply and fit this should be easy to sort out, if you employed various trades it becomes more difficult.

Contact the company who did the work and get them to come back in and examine the bath.  Assuming they are cracks they should replace.
