earrings won't fasten in my ears

took some earrings back to the shop as they will not fasten in my ear.  I can fasten the one I took out of the packet NOT in my ear.  I argues in the shop they are not fit for purpose as my expectation is that earrings should be able to be worn fastened in my ear otherwise they will drop out.  would this qualify as a not fit for purpose?  TIA for any help you can offer.

How do you mean they won’t fasten in your ears?

  • They are like an angled hoop style.  When the post bit goes through your ear the back of the hoop won't clip into place to stay shut.

If they are faulty then you should be entitled to your money back, whether or not they have been worn.  However, if they will clip shut when not wearing them could it be the way you are trying to clip them closed which is the problem?

You could try gently bending the wire that goes through the ear upwards ever so slightly.

I had a pair where one didn't click shut quite as well as the other and this fixed it.

Can you be a bit clearer?

So you've already taken them back to the shop and they've refused to exchange, fix or refund them?

What explanation did they give for refusing?

I know what the OP means.  It is the prong bit which is not holding the post tight enough, so I would not even try pushing them tighter.  I did once and ended up breaking the earring.

When closed, not in the ear does the prong hold the post and not seem loose?
  • Thanks for all the advice and comments.  Took the earrings back to a different store branch and they agreed with me that they were damaged and refunded me.
