@alicef I love WYS yarn. Which colourways did you buy? (I can’t quite recognise them from the photo, but the sock looks very festive.)
@Nelligrace, that is very clever. Good luck with the tactic.Nelliegrace said:My friend Laura posted this, it made me chuckle all day.
It seems that there might be a similar “scam” for yarn.

I was curious about the Sugar Plum blanket and went looking online - it's very pretty and I can see why you wanted to make it @MrsCD
Ditto.
We are a very creative bunch in Much Mending On The Borrow.
I am contemplating making minced pies. While I have a jar of “minced meat”, I have memories of a Wartime recipe which used grated apple. (Years ago, I attended a talk at the Cabinet War Rooms, given by Marguerite Patton. She passed around samples. Now to find the recipe…)

awww thank-you @Cherryfudge & @kiwisavings. I use winwick mum's free sock tutorial; it's so easy to follow.
@PipneyJane - I too, love WYS Signature 4 ply for knitting socks - the colourways are lovely and the yarn is so soft, (I think it must be due to the 35% blue faced leicester in the 75% wool mix). Some sock yarns are quite hard on the fingers and I'm using a 2.5mm circular, so that's a lot of stitches. The colours purchased recently are all from the Birds range, (Bullfinch; Goldfinch; Kingfisher; Jay; Peacock; Green Woodpecker). I don't know why these were, specifically, discounted - perhaps it was the last few balls of a dye lot. I did order these on-line, because my LYS is very short on WYS Signature at the moment, (I've had 'Owl' on request for weeks now). I do try to support my LYS - so many physical shops are closing, but sometimes they just don't have the stock. I'm determined to replace the OH factory made socks with handknitted as the latter are much easier to darn.
@Nelliegrace I showed your quote to my OH - it's me to a tee!

@alicef and @PipneyJane your socks look so good. Lovely colours. PJ pleased that you were able to find some more of the deleted line of wool.
I was also curious about the Sugar Plum blanket and went looking online - lovely colours and granny squares, I can see why you want to make it @MrsCD
@alicef I have visited lots of towns / cities with my husband and it is sad how many do not have a yarn shop. If anyone is in Shrewsbury they are blessed with a very good craft / yarn shop plus a very good material shop. I spent a good hour looking around the yarn shop. I was very good and only bought 150g of sock wool.2025 Fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons

I have a question and I'm hoping someone here can help me please! I have some of the L1dl sock yarn and the guide on the ball band says needles size 4. Surely that's not 4mm needles? My socks might look like lace! I've never actually made socks and was expecting teeny-tiny thin needles...

4mm needles sounds about right, it’s actually pretty big - nearly half a centimetre. Is it DK wool?Cherryfudge said:I have a question and I'm hoping someone here can help me please! Don't all mincemeat recipes use plenty of apple? My current batch has all the remaining apples from our local help-yourselves trees, as well as a few spoonfuls of last year's mincemeat for continuity!PipneyJane said:

ps- Pip, your Aussieness is showing
"minced pies" would be if you made pies and then chopped them up finely
and a jar of "minced meat" would be a jar filled with raw meat chopped up finely...
you want mince pies, made from mincemeat
subtle but crucial distinction!

Apparently US 4 is 3.5mm. That tension sounds like 4ply so I would start on 3.25mm but check your stitch count after a few rowsCherryfudge said:I have a question and I'm hoping someone here can help me please! this is their Annika 4-ply sock yarn, yes? According to the ball-band I have, the recommended needle size is 2-3mm. See below. I use 2.5mm.
