Had a minor accident this year which was deemed my fault. My renewal notice came and the renewal is up from £500 approx to £800. (not as much as id thought. I went on comparison sites and with the one fault im getting quotes of about £550. As i dont feel that the current quote of £800 is too much more ( i know £300 is £300), is there an advantage to staying with the current insurer or would you change?

Assuming you're comparing the new policy on both price AND actual cover, the only real difference is in the tiny amount of admin involved to move to a new insurer.

yes the cover is the same, I was thiking if there were later complications with the claim at a later date.0

What "complications"? It's already priced in as you having been at fault. The claim is closed, right?2

I assume so but ive never had any confirmation, i guess i can ask them.0

It's possible that the third party will make an additional claim at some point in the future (eg injury, hire car, repair costs that still haven't been fully paid). But in that scenario they will still be dealt with by the company you were insured with at the time of the accident - having changed insurer in the meantime will make no difference. If you do get any correspondence from the third party contact your (old) insurer and do not try to deal with it yourself.2

You are lucky. Mine increased by more than that without even a claim against me.

However, you've now experienced their claims handling and you may think it was great so worth paying a premium to stay with them or your may think for £300 its worth rolling the dice that the next company may be better or worse1 -
