Thank you Surrey Saver, after I read your message I did a quick online chat with First Direct and they said my application "dropped off" and that I could now try to open one, grr! This was in spite of having a text on Wednesday apologising for the delay in opening, and a message on the front page of my account saying "we see you've applied for a regular saver, we've reserved one for you but due to high demand it might take a bit longer". Thank goodness the 7% didn't drop when the base rate did (although I suppose there is time, the thing still isn't open even though I've applied again!)surreysaver said:
Mine matured on Wednesday and my new one opened the same day!CricketLady said:First Direct 7% regular saver - just a heads up that mine matured on Saturday 13th, the money was available for me to withdraw on Sunday 14th and I was able to request a new one to start on that same day (Sunday).
It still isn't open yet (Friday 19th) which means that First Direct's lead time could be about a week currently for this account. They've sent a lovely apologetic text and when I log in I have a message explaining how inundated they have been for this account, that "one has been reserved for (me)" but that it might take longer to open than usual.
This is all fine by me, but I just thought it might be useful for anyone with one about to mature to know (or if you start an application from scratch.)
Lots of love
xxx
Although I did apply for the new one as soon as the old one disappeared
Ah well, if this is all I've got to complain about today, I'll take it!
Have a lovely weekend everyone

Natwest / Royal Bank of Scotland dropping the rates of their Digital Regular Saver from 5.50% to 5.25% AER on 19th January for £5k and under; for over £5k, the rate drops from 1.06% to 1.00% AERI consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?5 -

Apologies if I have missed this if it has already been posted, as I tend to skip through a lot of posts in this thread these days.
Dudley BS have two versions of a Festive Regular Saver
£0 to £250 p/m (though min £50 to open)
Unlimited withdrawals
One online, one branch/post. Looks like both can be opened.
1 year term, 13th deposit permitted, 5.50% variable
both accounts link from here
Anyone applied for this as a new customer recently? I'm just wondering what the lead time is from application to opening. TIA
I opened it as a new customer. It was very quick application and the account was opened in about 3 seconds after submitting the application. Getting online access was also very quick. I've made deposit by card and it appeared on the account straight away and the rate changed from 0% to 5.5%. I didn't even have to log out and in again to see the change. The whole process, from application to seeing funds arrived was done in one sitting. Very efficient.4 -
I've already submitted the form - £400 to new RS and the rest to bank account. I was hoping that Chorley won't drop the rate below 5%. 5.10% is better than I expected.happybagger said:Chorley BS w/e 16/1/26, slight change:
Regular Saver (all issues, NLA and open) from 5.15 to 5.10%
Regional 2 Year Flexible Saver also from 5.15 to 5.10%

True, but I look at it from a prospective that the monthly interest compounds elsewhere. I tend to ignore gross, just stick to AER for comparison.surreysaver said:

RBS Digital Regular Saver
I’ve had a payment bounced back today for funds I’ve added to this account to replace money that was withdrawn earlier in the month. The amount seems random as I’d taken out about £1425 on the 2nd, funded it last week with around £1220 from a matured Principality RS so had another £200 or so to pay back in when I get paid on Monday. They’ve today returned £676 and a few pence to me, saying I can only add £150 per month. Don’t know where they got the £676.xx from, and I’ve not had this problem before, but I’m not going to pick at that thread as it doesn’t actually state anywhere in the T&Cs that this is permitted, and I don’t want to draw attention to the fact I’ve done this a couple of times.A shame if this loophole has been closed, especially on the day an interest rate cut has been announced (although at 5.25% this account will be now less attractive than my ISA)4 -
Coventry BS Loyalty Seasonal Saver
For those with this account maturing on 20th December the maturity interest has now been credited (dated 19th December) and the account has morphed into Easy Saver. I have instructed closure of mine but it seems funds won't leave until Monday 22nd, due to arrive same date in nominated account.12 -

I withdrew £2k on the 5th December and replaced it back in full on the 12th only to have £1099 (?) returned to my RBS Current account with the message you can only deposit £150 per month. As the interest rate for the digital RS will be cut to 5.25% as of 19th January 2026, I'm in no rush to replace the returned amount and will just add monthly funds with whats left over / compound interest. The same has also happened with my Natwest Digital RS (Interest rate cut to 5.25% as of 19th January 2026) It was a nice loophole while it lasted! Is anyone having issues with trying to open a Dudley BS 5.5% Var Online Festive RS? I keep getting an unsuccessful due to technical issues message along with the BS telephone number after submitting my online application?~ NSD 2025 - NSD December 18/20 (11 x💯)# Spectos/Royal Mail Monitoring and Posting Panel - On Rest - 2 x £25 Vouchers Redeemed, 29 FREE Books of RM Stamps & 2 x Presentation Pack.~ Totally FREE Christmas 2025 - 🎁✉️🏷🎀💐🪪🗒🧺⭐️Completed Challenges 2025:# No.36 Make £2025 in 2025 £1756.28 / £2025 (4) 💯💯💯# No.12 Save £2 a Day 2025 £730/ £730 💯# No.27 Save 1p A Day 2025 £667.95 / £667.95 💯# No.19 52 Week Env Challenge £1378 / £1378 💯# No.34 Save £12k in 2025 £22,375.08 / £12,000 💯 (12) - Completed2 -
It morphed in the evening, too late for withdrawals to arrive on the same day. I was going to close tomorrow, but now leaving it until Monday. Looks like it has to be 2.2% for this weekend. Thanks for the warningHattie627 said:Coventry BS Loyalty Seasonal Saver
