I think for many of us it’s a bit of a game. I actually enjoy the 1st of the month and moving money around…….and before anyone says, I know I can automate a lot of it but I don’t want to.
I also enjoy the 1st and manually moving money - However, the 1st Nov 2025 is a Saturday, that might delay things as not much point sending money to a Building Society at the weekend that won't process it until Monday the 3rd!
I don't enjoy it at all, that's why I pay all of mine, at the moment, by standing order. The Scottish BS Reg Saver will be the only one that will need to be a manual monthly transaction.
Will it? Do they not take standing orders? I too prefer them. couldnt trust myself to not mess up if I did manually and if I was ill or indisposed suddenly and couldn't do it the whole investement strategy would be thrown off.

    Re Scottish BS
Has everyone who applied via email received a response from them?
    Scottish BS RS

Yes; had to send my driving licence via email, only to be told afterwards that all was well and my account would be further processed WHEN they receive my opening deposit ... by mail. Groan. (Now off to find the chequebook in the dusty drawers of old...)
I too had to hunt out the unused cheque book of olden days !
Last time I wrote out a cheque the stub was dated 2019
    Cheque Scottish BS

Thought I might apply as nothing came from Savings Week - don't use cheques anymore so had to hunt for the cheque book - found - it has a Griffin on the front and is from Midland Bank - still got same account - wonder if HSBC would process the payment - however just switched my Santander CA to Nationwide and asked for a cheque book.
Oh, I recall my first bank account, a "Griffin Saver". Lots of lovely lovely tat came with it.

    Scottish Reg Saver

An opening Cheque Deposit needs to be posted to Head Office /Dalry Road within 14 days then a welcome pack will be sent out.
I’ll post off a cheque not sure if to risk the previously mentioned Freepost address or use a stamp !

Did they provide you with a reference or account number to include when you post them your cheque to them?
    They emailed me the following

    The cheque should be posted to our Head Office address below. with a note of your name and address on the reverse of the cheque;

    SBS House

    193 Dalry Road

    Edinburgh

    EH11 2EF

That info wasn’t given to me in the email I received.
Luckily I haven’t yet posted the cheque off. So I can add my address total the reverse of the cheque. Thanks
    Scottish BS RS

They didn't instruct me to do that, either. Just to make the cheque out in my name. It's too late for me to change it now, so will see what happens...

VIRGIN REG. SAVER EXCLUSIVE ISSUE 4
Virgin Money back with its 6.5% fixed £250 monthly till 30/10/2026
Is the maths good on closing an issue 3 and opening an issue 4 to extend the fixed-term rate?
It depends on your circumstances. If you'd only have £250 in the account by the end of this month, then worth it. Possibly also worth it if you have more RS than cash to fill them. Otherwise refreshing is a gamble on what the landscape will be like in a year's time.
If you extrapolate with the situation where each month VM bring out a new issue at the same rate with a new fixed term, then over the year you'd just have £250-500 earning at that rate compared with an average of £1500 if you kept the original. So refreshing for a longer fixed-term rate doesn't work in the general case.

They don't specifically mention standing orders. They do say bank transfer from your nominated account is ok. Not sure if that's an ok for standing orders. I associate the term bank transfer to mean faster payment. What do you think ?

I'd suggest that the actual method by which the transfer is initiated (manual FP or SO) would make no difference to the recipient institution/account. I've missed the bit of this thread when there was a suggestion that ScotBS might not accept deposits by SO - why was that?

Though of course it does help people who don't have printers, but it does mainly negate the point of having an email application option. What this achieves in the era of COP, I don't know.

Same here, I'm more of a set and forget person.

But I'll add that I love to see that manual payments make people happy. I'm big on as long as you're not hurting anyone, people should do more of what makes them happy, whatever that is.
