I think we need a thread where anybody who becomes aware of a new RSA can post about it, and all who are interested can learn about it ASAP.

I don't think we can or should rely on a single individual to provide the information.

I don't see a need for any information to be duplicated.

“If you have information about a new regular saver account then please feel free to post a message on this thread or you can write a separate thread and then post a link here. Please try and limit discussion on this thread to regular savings accounts.”

I shall address the concern regarding relying too heavily on one individual for information first if I may.

The second page onwards of the Archived thread shall function in a similar manner to the Easy Access No Chat Thread.

When a new regular saver is launched, withdrawn or sees its rate change in practice I would expect most would post this information on this thread as they may wish to discuss things further. When this happens I shall make an announcement in the Archived thread detailing the changes.

If a new regular saver is launched and people wish to make a post in the Archived thread to mention this I have no issues with them doing so whatsoever so long as any discussion surrounding the regular saver is confined to this thread only.

In essence the Archived thread takes on the function of the no chat regular savers thread but with the archived list of regular saver Ts&Cs etc on the first page.

I would agree that a thread where anybody who becomes aware of a new RSA can post about it is useful, which is why I have provided two possible options for people to do so:

The Top Regular Savers Discussion Thread (the post you are currently reading) where they can post information about the regular saver and people can discuss it as much or as little as they wish.

Or they could use The Archived History Of Regular Savers Thread *** NO CHAT***  thread, where they can state a regular saver has been launched, withdrawn or had their rates changed but nothing else.

By the very nature of having a no chat thread to run alongside the regular savers discussion thread there is inevitably going to be a level of duplication given that when a new account is launched it shall be posted in both threads at some stage.

What I would prefer however is that we do not end up with two no-chat threads with one copying the other, thus I would prefer the Archived thread to serve as the no chat regular savers thread as I have already stated.

The title post of this thread is largely a copy, paste and edit of the post by Special_Saver2 in the old thread. I shall go through it again and amend it to state the full purpose of this thread and the role of the Archived thread more clearly in the few hours, the section you highlight is going to be updated to include a reference to the archived thread.

Whilst I'm discussing the purposes of these threads I may as well point out one subtle change to this thread compared to the previous version that could easily have been missed, which is the clarification that I am more than happy for people to discuss regular savers which have been withdrawn but continue to be held by some on this forum, this includes discussion about maturing regular savers that have long since been withdrawn. This is also the main reason why the ``currently available" has been dropped from the title of this thread.

Apologies for any initial confusion and I hope this clarifies things.

In its earlier incarnations, SS2s thread was mainly a source of useful information.  You could set an alert for new posts, and they were usually worth reading.  The people that used the thread tended to be quite disciplined and stayed on topic. 

Recently, it has become more of a talking shop, which many people enjoy, but for many of us it is no longer useful.  You can often plough through 30 new posts before finding any new information. 

People post information about new accounts which quickly gets lost in the surrounding noise, and the information is often posted more than once because the original posts are easily overlooked. 

I think a "no chat" thread is needed, and I know that I'm not alone in this.

Your archive of T&Cs is a useful source of reference, particularly for accounts which are NLA but which people still hold.

It doesn't seem to me to be an appropriate place to post news of new accounts.  You seem to want one thread to serve two totally different functions.

You continue to advocate that people post news and information about new accounts in this thread.  But that doesn't work.  The information gets lost.  Or we get perhaps 30 alerts about uninformative posts before finding a gem.

And your solution to this relies on you, and only you, updating an "archive" thread, despite this being the thread which should be about currently available accounts.

I don't think your suggestion will work. 

I also think the explanations about what the threads are for need to be short and simple as many people will class them as TLDR

First of all an apology from me, I probably didn't make my plans for The Archived History Of Regular Savers Thread *** NO CHAT***  thread clear enough and should've been more detailed and precise when I replied to you in the old regular savers thread on Friday.

I appreciate the sentiment with your no chat thread however I fear this new thread shall create rather a lot of unnecessary duplication given that the function it serves was intended to be served by the rebranded The Archived History Of Regular Savers Thread *** NO CHAT***.

As I stated on Friday in the old regular savers thread in response to a post you made (see sections in bold, underlined and italicised):

Instead I plan to rebrand the existing Archived List of Regular Saver Ts&Cs thread and run it parallel to the main regular savers thread to accommodate this function, the way this shall work is detailed below.

The main regular savers thread shall include a list of the currently available regular savers listed on the first page similar to the current regular savers thread we are posting in now and shall continue to be used for any discussion regarding regular savers as this thread is now.

A post detailing recently NLA accounts shall be included at the end of the main regular savers list, when this post becomes long older entries on this list shall be transferred to new posts in the new regular saver thread and a link to these posts shall be included on the first page of the Archived List of Regular Saver Ts&Cs thread.

Whenever a new regular saver is launched, goes NLA or rate changes are announced I shall make a post detailing the changes in the Archived List of Regular Saver Ts&Cs thread, in essence it shall serve the purpose it currently does but take on the additional function of being a defacto no chat regular saver thread.

The Archived List of Regular Saver Ts&Cs thread shall be renamed to something along the lines of ``The Archived Regular Savers History Thread" and shall be marked more explicitly as a NO CHAT thread as this thread has expanded beyond just regular saver Ts&Cs since it was launched last year.

When I stated that ``I shall not be creating a new no-chat thread." I stated this because I wanted the existing archived thread to fulfil the function of a no-chat thread so there would be no reason to create a third thread.

The way I intend The Archived History Of Regular Savers Thread *** NO CHAT*** to fulfil that function is as follows:

1. When a new regular saver is added to the list in this thread I shall make an announcement on the Archived thread stating which account I have added with a brief summary of the key terms.
2. Whenever an on the list account goes NLA I shall make an announcement on the Archived thread stating which account has gone NLA
3. If an interest rate change to any of the accounts on the list is announced I shall make an announcement on the Archived thread stating which accounts are affected and what the new rates shall be

The first page of Archived thread shall continue to serve the function it originally did though, with the archived list of regular saver Ts&Cs being spread over the first few posts of that thread. The remainder of the thread is to serve the function of the no chat thread.

You may maintain your own no chat thread if you wish but there seems little point as I shall be posting any updates to the regular savers included in the list in the main regular savers thread in the Archived thread anyway so it would essentially become duplication of the Archived thread.

Once again apologies for not making the above clearer two days ago.

I guess the problem is the name. "The archived history of" suggests the opposite of new accounts going in there. I have a vague memory somewhere between Turkey prosecco and pigs in blankets of thinking I'd misread something then feeling pleased about Smithy and Nessa in Gavin amd Stacey and a bit sad about Pete in Outnumbered and then suddenly its Sunday night.

Can we just go back to having one thread with details of new accounts and discussion please? There was nothing wrong with the old setup.

Never have I seen so much confusion. I really don't know what I need to open in order to stay informed. This has become an absolute mess. It took 20 minutes to read what a thread is all about. Madness.

Regardless it will continue to be an extraordinary resource,  largely thanks to the person who has maintained it for years and the person who has taken it over having been endlessly helpful to scores of us and but also thanks to everyone who offers help to queries about things that may be buried in  t and Cs but hard to find. Good to improve the structure of the threads but I personally don't want to lose sight of that.
