Well it doesn't matter which route I take, existing customer or not, (I am, and they have recent ID), computer, app, or browser, I haven't found a way of either opening an account online, or registering for online accounts, without needing a camera to do a 'selfie'. If anyone does know a way, please let me know.
  • I've sent them a message and I'll see what they say, it just keeps going round in circles for me.

I've tried opening the easy access saver but struggling with that too.

Never mind, good luck to everybody else 🤞

    Furness Xmas RS2
I have tried applying as a new customer on Android phone App and also using Chrome on my laptop.
    On both I keep getting...

You haven't selected a product yet

It looks like you don't have any open accounts with us. In order to register for our online services you need to select a savings account to open.

...even though I did select the product!

Anyone had this and got past it?

Yep, me, was just about to post.

    Ye olde vicious circle!
Furness just called me back and suggested I clear my browsing history and cookies as they'd had no other reports of this exact going-round-in-circles issue.  I told them to check out this forum.  I can also confirm that having cleared my cookies, browsing history and just about everything else I still got absolutely nowhere with this regular saver and do not recommend anyone attempt this strategy xx

I had the same message on repeated attempts. I got past it by opening an easy access account first (without funding). That successfully took me through the online access onboarding and once logged in I was able to apply for the new Xmas RS2.

Exactly what I did. Worked for me too.

Thanks for letting me know. Tbh I'm not too concerned, I'm nearing (pushing!) the limits of what free cash I have now for regular savers, what with ISA funding too.

The £500 per month is a tempter though.

Furness Xmas RS2 - COP failed - I continued anyway - £500 has left my account but message came up transaction failed. Has any one else had a problem funding above account? I have overridden COP on other occasions and the transaction still went through.
I've opened Furness Xmas this morning and deposited £1 straight away. CoP failed as expected (reference didn't match), I've sent it anyway. No money arrived to Furness account yet.  It said in the e-mail that it can take up to 3 working days for money to appear, but that could be just a generic message. I'll keep monitoring.

I've managed to open a Furness Xmas as a new customer using a chromebook. It took a long time!

The worst bit was trying to take a scan of my passport. It couldn't find "the document" repeatedly, and then suddenly it could, and it worked.

And it doesn't like you to smile when it's taking a selfie. You get told off.

    Re: Furness online
They insist on it if you want to use their online system, even if you don't want to ever use an app or a mobile.
I ended up opening an account in branch instead - I asked why this was the case, the answer I got was "it just is. If you want to access your account online you'll need something with a camera to set it up". And yes, even if you have already provided ID in person.
Though in your case @SJMALBA I'm not sure how you could even open in branch as you'll need physical photo ID for that
When I tried registering for their new online portal as an existing customer not so long back due to technical issues they couldn't verify my ID electronically so I contacted them and they set up online banking manually.

A few weeks later they sent me a code which I inputted into their online portal to activate it without needing to provide further ID or use my phone's camera, all I needed was the activation code and a OTP.

I recall having a similar experience several months ago too and it was resolved within 24 hours after a phone call with a helpful person at Furness. I didn't want to use their app, only laptop access so the person had to send me a workaround at the time.
