Doesn't need to be fundedKim_13 said:
Afraid not, I’ve only ever done them to secure an account when I didn’t have the funds for it at the time of application. This is also my first account with Darlington, so I wouldn’t want to risk upsetting them. Doing £x.01 by NatWest DC in any future month that I can’t afford to fully fund it is as far as I’ll go.HHUK said:
Darlington RSKim_13 said:
As it matures on 31/8/26 regardless of when in August it is opened, I did a £1.01 NatWest DC payment. I figure it’s unlikely to still be around on September 1 so I don’t lose anything by opening it with the minimum today.
Ahem. Do we happen to have any idea how many such £1.01 payments it's possible to make by NatWest / RBS debit card without upsetting Darlington? (Asking for a friend.)0 -
A clever comment. Finallygt94sss2 said:
Yes, it has been reported here in the past that Skipton have contacted customers for a lot fewer direct debit payments per month - let alone a week!s71hj said:
I'm currently doing about 200 to 300 £1.01 debit card transactions per week from RBS/Natwest into my Skipton savings account to get regular saver round ups. So my question is, should I be expecting the Skipton Building Society inquisition any day soon?Malchester said:

As a sidenote (not directed to @s@s71hj) and I suspect this will be unpopular with some but imho this thread recently seems to have taken a turn for the worse.
It has always been used to promote new RS accounts and URLs etc. but I get the sense that recently there has been a lot more about openly "abusing" accounts and boosting about it - not just sharing workarounds.
This kind of behaviour is going to lead - for instance - that those savings providers who accept debit card payments to withdraw the facility from all customers as it does have a cost for them to provide and/or someone like NatWest pulling roundups from being used to increase the balance on their regular saver, impacting all customers negatively.
Of course, I am not feeling well ATM so could just be particularly grumpy..2 -

Wanting to close my Monmouthshire Regular Saver at 4.9% before maturity. Requested transfer of the balance to my nominated account as couldn't see option to close. Will they add any interest due to0? Thanks0

I closed it online, can’t remember the details but it was straightforward. I think withdrawal request should trigger closure and you should receive interest in that transaction. Has the account disappeared from the view? If yes, your account is closed and interest will be added. I received mine on the same day.Growingold said:Wanting to close my Monmouthshire Regular Saver at 4.9% before maturity. Virgin Money RS Closure again.I have just received a very curious email from Virgin Money. I will post in full just to share the bizarre content. From hellob@cygb.com
Good morning RG2015,We recently received an online request to close your savings account, unfortunately we are unable to action this request at the moment due to the account having a credit balance. Please transfer all the money in your account to bring the balance to 0.Once the funds have been removed you can request the closure in store, in writing or over the phone.Kind RegardsVirgin Money Admin Team
Even if I transferred the balance, there would still be the £26 interest to transfer. And why else would they ask for an account to transfer the balance to?
PS I only had a nominal amount left in the account, not the full £3,138.320 -
Looks to be a duplicate post - I’ve replied here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/81587376/#Comment_81587376RG2015 said:Virgin Money RS Closure again.I have just received a very curious email from Virgin Money. 1. As someone else has mentioned Skipton may contact you about this. Editted: Thanks for the correction @gt94sss2s71hj said:

2. If you're using the RBS/Natwest roundups feature, just as a heads up in case you hadn't noticed you can add a multiplier to your roundups to speed up this process. Though again you are gaming the system slightly, but maybe by using the multiplier you can reduce the number of debit card transactions to more manageable levels. a nice £4.95 going in per payment instead of 99p might be useful.

Yes, I have the multiplier on, but worthwhile to have drawn attention to it. I can't help but feel gaming the system is a bit of a mute point on this forum. Institutions have every opportunity to create terms and conditions that prevent any particular approach to their offers. I tend to think that money is made FROM "typical cuatomers" and all we can do is avoid being typical customers with the aim of being the ones to make the money FROM the institutions.Ch1ll1Phlakes said:
