Yes, I've made a lot of £1.01 payments for double roundups. They won't close your account for doing this - roundups don't violate the t&c, on the contrary - Natwest/RBS encourage customers to use roundups.devansuk said:Has anyone done the natwest digital saver round up trick? Could they close your savings account or is it just frowned upon. Thanks All0 -
Since the recent "upgrade" that allows X5 roundup I've been sending a penny between a couple of PayPal accounts once or twice a day, payment from my linked NatWest debit card. No other activity on this card.devansuk said:Has anyone done the natwest digital saver round up trick? Could they close your savings account or is it just frowned upon. Thanks All
Probably could go mad and do 99 payments in a day (think that's the max allowed) but think that falls under the "Taking The P1ss" clause in the T&Cs. Not sure how PP might react too.
I wouldn't worry too much, if RBS/NatWest were to start sanctioning people for this then it would be reported on here pretty quickly.0 -
It depends how you use your Paypal account. If the only payments are the penny transactions it is much riskier but if you use your Paypal account more frequently and for other transactions and also with other cards it is easier. Still, if you plan to do 99 transactions, spread them out 10-15 or so at a time and leave some breaks in between. It could trigger fraud checks and you need to give a reason and justify what the transactions are for (had that once) and it was resolved within 20 minutes without any support involvement.flaneurs_lobster said:

Much more complicated if you plan on doing 99 for Natwest and 99 for RBS in one day...0 -
A 1p debit card transaction anywhere will cost the merchant more than 1p. Tread carefully as the merchant would be entirely within their rights to tell you to do one if you take the mickey. On the contrary, the transaction itself won't cost the card issuer anything (infact they might even earn a minute amount on it, although I'd suspect that's highly likely to be rounded out). It's PayPal who I'd expect to kick up a stink here, not NatWest/RBS.0

Agreed, I don't use PayPal for anything else (bar a couple of direct debits that are never drawn on) so being kicked off would be no big deal, might well be problematic for others.WillPS said:It's PayPal who I'd expect to kick up a stink here, not NatWest/RBS.0 -
I was planning of buying a few carrots for pennies over 4-5 days during my lunch break and using the 5× round-up which only recently l discovered. Does anybody think I'll get a block on the account?allegro120 said:

I'd be surprised if they had any objections to you buying a few carrots to be honest. They could block your card for any number of reasons, I seem to recall getting a credit card blocked after I spent 1p on a SIM only deal at one point, it was quickly unblocked.Bob2000 said:

Have you got their reward account yet? If not I would open it. They give you £5/mth (though charge a £2 monthly fee, for paying out 2 DDs and logging into the app each month.Bob2000 said:

The £5/mth in rewards can be paid into the regular saver without it counting to the £150/mth limit.2 -
I do a lot of debit card transactions for tsb cashback and tend to spread them across various eg trading 21, Yorkshire bs, Skipton bs, hanley bs, Cambridge bs, Darlington bs and a number of others. Stops any one of them getting biffy with me!WillPS said:A 1p debit card transaction anywhere will cost the merchant more than 1p. I have now updated the list of regular savers which have responded to the previous cut from 4.75% to 4.5% on 6/2/25. This list shall no longer be maintained following the Bank of England's decision to maintain the Base Rate at 4.5%.
The following banks and building societies that offer variable rate regular savers have not declared what they are doing to their regular savers following February's decision:Aldermore Chorley BS Gatehouse Hanley Economic BS Market Harborough BS Nationwide
Note a link to the list remains on the first page of the Archived Thread for future reference.
