put araldite glue in the pinhole / reset button

obviously make sure you know the password as you won't be able to reset the router again !

Realistically this is the only physical solution that will work although the box will need to be well ventilated (without giving access to the reset button!) as they tend to get quite warm.

I wouldn't glue up the reset button, as in one suggestion, as you may possibly need access yourself for a reset in the event of a problem.

Even if successfully locked up she could presumably buy a s/h router on Gumtree for a few pounds, unplug yours and set her one up to use your incoming connection?

My primary router is in the loft, out of reach of any fiddling
  • Which router is it? When you say herself as admin , has she changed the default admin user/passord?
Simple solution is to factory reset the router (assuming there is a sticker detailing defaults). Then change that to something else and away you go. As a deterrent disable access to her device mac addresses and wait for the fallout.

And when you have put the router in a locked box/cupboard remember to block access to 'How to pick a lock" videos on youtube.
TBH this is more of a parenting conundrum than a techie issue. Best of luck.

Assuming you are also an "admin", remove your daughters admin rights and change the password.  Then change the access times.

What make of router do you have?
    It's a plusnet one

It's getting a bit like 'Mumsnet' on here with all the parenting advice.....🙄🤣

OP....Maybe something like this would come in handy..... CLEARSTOP Locking Access Point and Router Cabinet | SSP Direct
I've not used one so can't recommend or not.... They do something else a bit cheaper.... CLEARSTOP Locking Access Point Cover | Lockable Router Protector Guard

If it is a Plusnet router then it will either be a BT Hub One or Hub Two.

If you still have the original password on it (can't remember if it is on the hub itself or on the removable card with the default wifi password) then do the reset and reconfigure (changing the passwords and wifi SSID name / password from default). Then keep the default admin password safe somewhere and remove it from the device itself. Unless she has already written it down somewhere (unlikely) then her resetting it will be self defeating as she won't be able to re-configure it again and will lose access.

As with all things there are ways around it, but thats a different battle for you to decide on approach for.

  • Factory reset the router, change the login password to something random - password generators are your friend here.  Then apply what changes you need to make.  If you're able to do so, I'd hot glue the hot where the reset button is - I say hot glue for a good reason, as isopropyl alcohol will remove it with ease should you need to.
Finally have some very stern words with your daughter.

Move the router to your bedroom and if your daughter doesn't get the message put a lock on your/or ( better still) her bedroom door.
