Refund for Cancelled Cineworld Unlimited Membership - What are my rights?

Options
I paid for a Cineworld Unlimited membership using Service Seats vouchers purchased via BlueLight Card. My local Cineworld is closing in January and rather than refunding me for the unused 5 months, Cineworld have said I need to contact Service Seats as they are responsible for the refund. As Cineworld are breaking the contract entered into (12 month membership) this doesn't feel right. Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks

Is the membership tied to your local cineworld, given their are 4 different levels of membership?

If not then I don't think even going to Service Seats will get a refund.

your contract is with the person you bought goods/services (vouchers) from and who you paid ie Service Seats

Also I assume you bought unlimited membership for 'Cineworld' not unlimited membership for your 'local Cineworld' so you can still go to other Cineworlds
  • Sounds like a messy purchase chain.  You paid Service Seats using a blue light card for a subscription to a cinema chain.  I can't see that your local cinema closing means they (Cineworld) have breached any contract you may have with them, unless the terms of that contract make it exclusive to your local cinema or they guarantee access to a minimum number of cinemas and the closure of your local one takes that number below that minimum, for example.

In any case, going from your own description, I think your contract is with Service Seats so Cineworld are correct that you need to contact them.

    Exactly.

I'd be very surprised if a membership of a national chain became void and was refunded because the the most local venue closed.

Cineworld aren't breaking a contract. They're only closing one cinema and you don't have a contract with them.

Your contract is with Service Seats so you need to contact them to see it one cinema closing warrants a refund. You'll probably need to argue your case that there are no other Cineworld venues near you.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

    As I posted.
    They have 4 levels.

They also have a very helpful FAQ
