Looking for recommendations for Cornwall please.

Options
Looking to go to Cornwall next year for about 7 days. Want to take my sister who has limited walking capability due to heart/breathing issues.  I am wiling to drive down rather than go by coach so we will have the convenience of a car to visit areas.

I havn't been since I was a teenager so now looking at a totally different type of holiday but I remember going to Newquay as a child and in my teens and loved it. I am aware it may have changed, rose tinted glasses and all that!

Where would you recommend staying, Newquay, St Ives, Perranporth or any other suggestions. Would like to find a mid range price hotel but happy to eat out so B+B would also be ok.

Would like to stay somewhere with a nice town to wander round and from where we can visit other places from.

Any suggestions please?

Probably best to remember Newquay as it was, and give it a miss now.

St Ives isn't spoiled imho but walking around will involve a lot of up and down and it can be an expensive place to stay

I have stayed at the Shearings hotel there and found that to be good value. They let me park free in an old garage behind.

They also have hotels in St Mawes, and Newquay

Thank you for the reply. I thought that may be the case with remembering form years ago. Actually since i posted this my sister has suggested we head for Benidorm instead. We are both a bit long in the tooth but we will never be any younger than we are now so perhaps we will go for it.

North coast is busier and aimed at younger travellers, surfers. Avoid Newquay, which is a bit of a dump now. South coast quieter, and older travellers. Fowey is nice, but expensive. Mevagissey nice as old fishing village. Close to Eden and Heligan.  Lots of good if sleepy villages inland .. St Columb, St Mawgan...

What time of year are you going?  If it’s in the high season then the towns can get really busy.  We visited St Ives when we were down there and it was horrendous, we had to practically queue up just to walk along the street.

Our last holiday in Cornwall was in Perranporth.  The beach there is lovely and if I remember correctly there are a lot of surfers, it was great fun watching  them.  I love the fishing villages/towns like Polperro and Mevagissey but driving through them can be a bit of a challenge.  I agree with the other comments about Newquay, I would give it a miss.

Parking can be difficult at times as Cornwall is so popular.  Polperro has a big car park outside the village and you have to walk in.  From what I remember Fowey also has a car park outside.  Does your sister have a blue badge?  That should help a lot.
I always like to look for the practical things while researching a new holiday destination.

We have been to the Isle of Wight quite a lot recently.  There are lots of YouTube programs about it which we found helpful.  I’m sure there will be many on Cornwall.
